Terrorists disrupt airports

Post by Dadaist » 10 Aug 2006, 11:29

How dare these nefarious terrorists use and disrupt our airports for their evil ends? And where is their morality targeting civilians?

I want our airports to resume smooth operation of legitimate flights shipping bombs to the Israelis to drop on Lebanese civilians - and Lebanese airports too.

It's a battle of good vs evil, the civilised world versus the uncivilised world, I mean for goodness sake they don't even play by the rules blowing themselves up, no sense of fair play, just not cricket.

Delays, disruption, queues, cancellations and luggage restrictions - people flying EasyJet won't notice anything different!

It's good to know that our American cousins are ahead of the game - whilst we only have sniffer dogs, they have "highly trained canine units".

Well, goddamn it, the "War on Terror"" just has to go on now.

And just when public opinion was turning more and more against what's happening in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon. Mmmmmmmm.......

You're right Bearcub, I'm going to get right behind the government from now on and I'm going to stop thinking for myself. In fact I'll happily hand over all my liberties to help them get on with the job. Thank the lord for for strong leaders like Tony Blair and George, they are rational, fair-minded and with God on their side they will overcome.

hmmm

happy or not, I think 'we' have pretty much done that already.

I am however heartened by the amount of shared scepticism that must be greeting the specially extended news bulletins broadcast from the very epicentre of the action by hand picked news teams that have somehow managed to penetrate where no childs electronic toy may go...

Maybe an identity card or two would have stopped all this rot?

In my morning paper today:

THE PLOT

The Tip: A tip in the aftermath of the London subway bombings on July 7, 2005, led British authorities to investigate what they said turned out to be a long-planned plot to bomb as many as 10 trans-Atlantic flights heading toward the United States.

TEST RUN: The terrorists were believed to be 48 hours away from testing their plot to use bottles filled with liquid explosives and simple electronic devices, possibly iPods or cell phones, to set off the charges.

DETAINED: After numerous raids Wednesday and Thursday, British police detained at lest 24 people. British Home Secretary John Reid said police are confidnet "the main players" were in custody.

###

A warm thank you to the Brits! I already lost a member of my community from 9/ll.

I've noticed that men start religious and political wars which other men feed off of. WHEN DOES IT END?

You forgot Condi. Not only is she a traitress to her race - according to you she must also be a traitress to her gender.

The Israeli armed forces have women soldiers. I also saw a good few screaming religious loonies when they cleared out the illegal settlements in Palestine who looked like they were women.

Based on this fact alone your comments are irrelevant since the percentage of females in battle is minute.

We're two halves of the same species. It is generally the male's role to do the territorial, physical fighting stuff, but I think it is nonsense to suggest that wars are solely the fault of men.

Don't worry Marguerite - I wouldn't have thought any youth were viewing this website. I imagine they have much better things to do. Marya's the youngest on here (apart from me of course), and she's about 56.

You're not gonna generate peace in the world if you go around blaming one half of the population for starting war.

Some of those men are trying to stop war.

I chaired a meeting against Gulf War I back in 1990 (91?) with Ron Brown as the main speaker. I was 17, and wearing my Heriots scarf!

Some hippies stormed out of the meeting because we weren't giving the correct emphasis on saving the planet.

Ain't no pleasing some folks innit.

As I stated from the very beginning, MEN START religious and political wars. It is the truth, Ali. Of course there are men and women that wish to put an end to WAR though the majority of wars throughout history were and still are started by men. (READ A HISTORY BOOK and the newspapers.) FYI this doesn't have anything to do with me as you state, 'blaming one half of the population for starting war'. That is absolutely ridicules and might be considered to provoke hate and war which in my opinion doesn't merit any further comments on my behalf since you haven’t clearly defined what ‘half the population’ might be in your opinion.

I think you raise an interesting point here. I think it is valid to look at men's contribution to war as compared that of women. I think there's something about men wanting to control external environments and subjugate others to their will. You see this in relationship and it's acted out in politics and conflict. I think men's emotional maturity or lack of it is more likely to create meglamaniacs and psychopaths that do a great deal of harm. Unfortunately power politics attracks these types with egos that go with it. I think men are more likely to lash out and hurt others, women are more likely to hurt themselves.

Dadaist, it isn't about pleasing people in the text that you convey in your above statement. It's about saving the lives of people on a planet that is destroyed by war, natural disasters, and poverty. My hands-on involvement with people from war, natural disasters, and poverty has lead me to believe that a helping hand far exceeds any written word. We may not be able to stop events from occuring, but we must be there to help the children and dying. After you've held them over a long period of years, you begin to see the world in a different light.

I don't think you need to analyse my post to deeply to understand that I was simply reflecting your allegation that MEN!!! are responsible for WAR!!!!

Most reasonable people would agree, I'm sure, that roughly half the world's population are male.

Most reasonable people wouldn't agree with a sweeping generalisation like yours.

Why haven't we seen the effect of giving women the vote come through in the numbers of conflicts worldwide?

Surely with the all the peace-loving men and all the women clearly, by your reasoning, voting for peace we should be living in a war free world?

Gilo, you've provided a very insightful discourse which I consider to be a healthy exchange of ideas. Based on my observation, men tend to favor power and control whereas women tend to be nurturers. As far as women being 'more likely to hurt themselves', I'd need to know from you exactly the specifics before commenting at length though I must admit, none of the women I socialize with 'hurt' themselves including myself :)

I simply meant that men tend to externalise and women internalise. For example as adults, messed up men tend to inflict damage on their environment more than messed up women, think of domestic violence, sexual viloence etc. Growing up, messed up boy exhibits challenging behaviour, messed up girl self harms etc. These are obviously generalisations.
