Multiculturalism

Today in our staff restaurant (OK - canteen) they served up Scotch Broth which contained all the usual ingredients - plus sweetcorn!!!!.

Now, as those who know me will tell you, I'm all for a multicultural society but isn't this taking things a bit too far?

Does it matter? Soup has always been a vehicle for any sort of leftovers

I could eat sweetcorn in any much anything, I think it would brighten up the broth adding a nice touch of colour

Well of course it doesn't really matter if you think of soup as a kind of kitchen scrap-bin but what I do know is that my old gran would laugh at the thought of sweetcorn in Scotch Broth (and where soup was concerned she knew her onions!!).

Sorry for shouting ... but Scotch Broth is Scotch Broth ... add anything else and it isn't Scotch Broth!!!

My Gran's potato soup was to die for but the only reason she never put any sweetcorn in is because we never had any!

My mother's tattie soup can never be equalled ... or her Scotch Broth. And I lived with a top chef long enough! No-one beats your mammy's soup!
