A strange sense of comfort

Post by mr magnolia » 02 Oct 2006, 20:53

two things in life bring me an unfocussed sense of well-being:

an unchecked lottery ticket in my wallet and a tin of custard in the cupboard.

we don't really buy lottery tickets, so it all comes down to the custard.

I need to share with you my horror experienced last week while mrs m was swanning around other parts of the uk, leaving me in sole charge:

it was 23:45 and I settled down to a large bowl of home-made (not by me!) apple crumble. When I went to the cupboard for the custard I wept at the empty space before me. EATEN! and not replaced!

It's taken me 6 days to recover my poise.

Custard is a very important part of any cupboard's furniture, mr M. It goes particularly well with McVities Jamaican Ginger Cake too.

I reeled with horror at the denouément of your story. Should such a tragedy occur again, come on over and I'll supply you with a packet of instant.

You poor, poor man.

Mmm........you won't be very impressed with me pouring half a carton of Sainsburys custard down the sink this morning then. We had the other half with some sticky toffee pudding the other night and didn't get round to using the rest. Nothing compares to home made custard and I can never be bothered making it I'm afraid.

I've recovered slightly, having had some at a friendly refuge yesterday. Must get out to shops though...

When I was about fifteen I went on a custard bender. I used to do a pint a night, no bother. Looking back I think it may have been a delayed reaction to the shock of stopping breast feeding at 3 months. What d'think?

You've just given me a notion for custard tonight. I buy birds powdered custard so I can eat my custard and still have it :!: :happy3:

You poor little Dadaist - all she brought was an egg and some custard?

Where was the wine or beer?

Can't have an egg and custard without something to wash it all down with!

I have enough home-brew to last another winter, and smuggled back enough whisky from France to pickle George Best.

That's not to say though that if I had put in a request to the lovely Mrs D for one of those 4-packs of Marston's Pedigree that she wouldn't have obliged. I go through phases, and right now it's the hard stuff.

On Friday last, we shared an evening repast with a 26 yr old man who had never eaten cooked apples or custard. Luckily, we were able to rectify the situation by providing both apple crumble AND custard.

I think, however, that this particular culinary offering left his Italian sensibilities unmoved. I had to eat his seconds...
