The passing of a legend

I want to say that it's with some regret that I mark today with the death of a long-time favourite radio personality ...

Alan Freeman ... "Fluff" ... disc jockey supreme, died yesterday in a retirement home.

His style of delivery, with his catchphrases, invented words and distinctively unique voice were a huge favourite throught the 60s and 70s on Radio One and into the 80s and 90s with other stations. "Hello pop-pickers" "Not 'Arf" "It's poptastic" "Alright?" ... these were amonst his best known sayings ...

Less well known perhaps, was his great love of Classical Music, which if you listened to him, shone throughout his Pop DJ career.

Feted by his contemporaries, Alan Freeman was an original, the likes of which we'll never see again ...

The late great John Peel, once said: "Fluff was the greatest out-and-out disc jockey of them all."

I just want to say I agree completely. Farewell Fluff, old mate ... may you rest in peace.

I did quite like Alan Freeman and his nostagia quotient is high. What age was he? I thought he had something hideous happen to him a few years back which was excacerbated by his chain smoking.

79 years old I think.

Alan Freeman was part of Mr. Arachnid and my era, we used to faithfully listen to " Pick of the Pops" every Sunday. His chart countdown was one of the highlights of the show for us " Pop Pickers"!!!!
