Looks a bit like Berwick on Tweed railway station but that wouldn't match the distances so I'll go for somewhere around there such as Alnmouth instead.

Entirely correct......in both ways.

Although if you're 88 miles from Portobello, 14 miles from Scotland and ? (actually 6

) miles from *some-other-place-on-the-signpost-hint-hint* you could be closer.....

Correct!

It's a picture that S's mum took whilst on holiday there - I actually thought it was our Portobello it referred to, thought it was strange that they had a sign with Portobello, Edinburgh on it.

I remember that border terrier, did they have a Jack Russel as well?
Many years ago we went to a dog show (part of Portobello Gala) in the PADCA centre and your kids were there with their Grandparents and we were there with Freddie. We both competed in the "dog's best trick" category and we got 1st and 2nd I think. I seem to remember that your in laws dog ran and jumped up to close the door( either that or something with a ball)

while Freddie walked on his hind legs

The dog I called Corrie was a Soft coated wheaten terrier but that's a very sad story and one I'd rather not talk about

That's the very two. The jack russell's name was Sula and it was famous for chasing its tail. Don't know what the trick was, they had quite a few. Sula nipped a girl on the bottom, when she (the dog) was in her latter years.
