It is very encouraging to note that Maureen Child has registered. Hopefully Laurence Marshall will not be far behind.

Hi,

I would agree it was good to see Maureen register as a member.

I would have liked to have seen some input on the issues currently under discussion from Maureen.

Lawrence might not have signed on as a member but he has made contribution to the discussions that are ongoing.

We've got to be fair in our comment.

HI,

Pity we still aren't attracting input from our elected representatives.

I think they've had enough time to find a few answers to some of the points raised on the forum issues.

If this forum is to be successful, then the issues raised by the community deserve the courtesy of a response from out elected representatives.

I'm gradually getting the hang of these discussion forums in cyberspace and have just registered!
I'm usually just into e-mail (and I thought I was doing well getting that far, c.f a certain Mr Blair!) but I'll try to keep a watching brief and respond to postings as appropriate.
As always. folk should feel free to contact me at home on 669 1336 or at the City Chambers on 529 3282. My e-mail address is lawrence.marshall@edinburgh.gov.uk

As most of you will be aware, Maureen Child is the local councillor for Milton ward, which takes in Joppa, as well as executive member for Finance. Along with Lawrence, she also sits on the Planning Committee.

Maureen produces a written monthly report to the Community Council and we feel that it deserves a wider audience so we intend to reproduce it on the website. You can read her September report at:

www.porty.org.uk/forum_links/mc_report_sep.htm

As well as being a useful source of local information it amply demonstrates the many and varied issues that a local councillor is expected to deal with and the conflicting interests that this often involves.

Although we take issue with the suggestion that the discussion forum is merely a soap box for whingers, Maureen may have a point in that she cannot be expected to respond to anonymous postings that may or may not originate from one of her constituents. We have no problem with accepting postings from people who prefer anonymity and we appreciate that you may have a variety of reasons for withholding your name but there is no doubt that if you wish to bring a particular matter to the attention of your local councillor, then the best way is to do so directly. You can contact Maureen at maureen.child@edinburgh.gov.uk

BTW we plan to feature a regular columm by Lawrence as well.

We now have Maureen's October report, a little later than we would have liked due to the recent technical problems. Nevertheless, lots of interesting local news and issues at:
