Driving

Post by Dadaist » 08 Mar 2007, 18:44

I half expected the You've Been Framed posse to jump out from behind a lamp post after tonight's succession of bampots who were allowed behind a wheel.

Gandhi would be proud though, I didn't even toot my horn although I may have internalized the odd epithet - check this lot out :

1. BMW pulled out of a service station in front of me only to immediately stop in the road, waiting to go back into the same station. Didn't expect that but slowed in time.

2. Blue car suddenly reversed out of his parking space and into oncoming me. Didn't expect that but slowed in time. The nice person in the car waved at me, the wave you normally give when you WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO STOP BEFORE YOU DO THE MANOEVRE HAVING CHECKED IT'S SAFE.

3. White van with nice red flammable warning triangle suddenly pulled out of the queue of traffic in the Portobello-bound lane of the Seafield roundabout in front of me. Didn't expect that but slowed in time. I didn't explode.

4. Black Ford drove all the way along Baileyfield Road, stopped at the lights and went up Duddingston Park, right indicator on the whole time. I've heard of forward planning ...

This was in the space of 5 minutes between Restalrig Road and Duddingston Park.

Drive carefully you all.

I admire your control, DaDa.
There are many out there like that.
Indicators in edinburgh must be made out of precious metal no one round here wants to wear them out!
Just remember to drive like everyone else is a nutter, then you won't be disappointed.

Bit difficult getting to 30 in that traffic, let alone going over it!

Welcome to the world of the driver D :? . My real pet hate is people who don't indicate on roundabouts therefore leaving you sitting there thinking they're coming your way when they're not and you miss a vital slot and end up sitting there for another five minutes
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

After taking early retirement from being a health inspector, my dad became a cabbie.

Some of the stories, etc.

I remember him once saying (about some people's driving) "they could at least give you a clue as to what they were doing - even Sherlock Holmes was allowed a clue!".

I drove through to Glasgow airport on Wednesday. Now there's a place for "guess where I'm going", and it's played on 5 lanes of motorway
It was raining and I seemed to be the only one obeying the speed limit on the motorway.

Must admit to feeling a bit jealous of the people who were posting pics of their new cars but I managed to get Clanger 1 and 4 of her pals , a couple being "traditonally built " rugby types, plus their luggage into the old Volvo estate

Sounds like she's in safe company anyways!

Oops meant to say 3 of her pals, another 2 got a lift from someone else. So there was only 5 of us in the car ( though I do have a seat in the boot but that would be pushing it a bit too much with the luggage )
They'd been to New York for a few days. The Eastern Europe trip is in the summer.
She loved New York but the accommodation was appalling. She was prepared for roughing it a bit in a hostel but not a dirty, dingy and unsafe place. No fire regs posted, wires sticking out , hot pipe running next to bed. The first morning she woke up to find dark hair over the pillow case, she's a red head

What really annoys me is people who do not use their indicators. Its so easy as well.

Glad you survived to tell us the story! :)

If it was Bearcub then he's still at the 'mirror, signal, manoeuvre and stall the engine' stage.

Nice to have you back Robin! Single again?

Me, a doppelganger  . Frightening though but, no, it wasn't me. Don't have a car....

Although I did pass my test 20+ years ago, and did have a car until 2-3 yrs ago....so even if it was me, it wouldn't be "mirror, signal, manoeuvre, stall"!

What we need is a psychic school of driving as you need to be one to figure out where folk are going. A oujia board instead of indicators?
Forget Sat Nav, get tarot cards on the dashboard

I pretend I have a button that releases air missiles at offending drivers, helps me no end

BTW I was in front of you the other week when you were driving a clanger to school. I waved away frantically but you studiously ignored me. :(

Indeed, West Lothian doesn't have the same immediate charms :)

A few areas have already had many trips... I've got heaps of crap photos of the turbines up on Dun Law (just within the Borders surprisingly) and the coast, of course.

Hah, that's one of the reasons I added in the "immediate" qualification :) You have to dig a bit deeper in West Lothian, but they're there.

On my travels I found an Indian restaurant with its own car park.

This gave me a deep, inner happiness.

Congrats on the licence, Wangi

Sorry, Marya, been a bit distracted as In laws moving, not at my best in the mornings anyway but was alert enough today to spot that the car next to me in East Preston St at the lights wanted to go left, even tho they were in the right hand bus lane, (no RH turn allowed unless you're a bus ), no indicators etc etc just weech across in front of me and screech round corner
The ground to air missile launched with laser cannon backup

I actuallly used to have a little black box device with flashing lights that stuck to the dashboard... you pressed a button when other drivers annoyed you and it made a rocket launch noise with an explosion for when they were exterminated...very satisfying I must say...apologies to all you pacifists out there
