Just heard some excellent news! Sheila from Findlay's the Butchers has re-launched the Traders Association. Sheila has been a driving force in the CATS campaign and is just the person to bring the local traders together. She will also represent the traders at Portobello Community Council.
Regular forum users will know that this is an issue I've been banging on about for ages so I'm delighted that Sheila has put herself forward. I've also persuaded her to join our discussion forum, so I hope she will be able to keep us informed of developments on this front.
BTW Joe and his staff have had a good laugh at the fund-raising album idea. I've told him we have advance sales so he'll have to go through with it now!

I did ask about the discount card, but I get the impression that it wasn't judged to have been a great success last time, and it eventually petered out as people mislaid their cards and lost interest in the scheme. From the traders' point of view I guess there is the extra time and work involved of calculating the discount. At the end of the day would they actually get the extra custom to justify it?
What would make other people more likely to shop locally? What goods or services do you buy outwith the area that might make profitable businesses in Portobello? What should existing traders be doing to increase business?
