new smilies and ranking images

Post by administrator » 10 Jul 2004, 08:51

Just added a few more smilies/emoticons for those of you who like that sort of thing. To access them when you are posting, just click on the 'View more Emoticons' link. Some examples below:

There is a search button at the top of the page - just to the right of the FAQ button. It could do with being a bit more obvious!

How does a Porty Person become a VeryImporty Person? And, is there a MostImporty Person? Or a BelievesHim/Herselftobethemostimportantperson?! I'll stop here before I go off on one....

:D Now I feel I have something to aim for!

DG :^o

Love the smileys!

The idea of ranking images is precisely that - to encourage people to post in order to gain status on the board.

Here's how it works:

newbie - one post or more
portyperson - 10 posts or more
portyregular - 25 posts or more
importy - 50 posts or more
veryimporty - 100 posts or more
portyobsessed - 200 posts or more

I'm hoping that our designer, Jane, can create customised ranking images for the site - maybe something with a seaside theme. This is just an off the shelf solution in the interim.

Well, I imagine it's not easy to create precise meaning in something 15 pixels wide but if you mouseover an emoticon you usually get some text which helps to explain what it represents. In this case you get the word 'drool'. So, you might be drooling over something, or perhaps someone. Frankly, it's the sort of emoticon that could get you into a lot of trouble and I would use it with caution.

You sure? Try positioning your pointer arrow over the icon and just leave it there for a second or two. Works for me! I'll have a large 99 BTW if you're going.

Um, vanilla - I'm a traditionalist. Congrats on becoming importy. Think we need to get some T-shirts made. 'get out of my way - i'm an importy person'

And even more smilies. Click on 'View more Emoticons' and maximise the screen. Think I'd better stop now as Paul tells me the whole thing is about to implode!
