Just read an interesting article in today's SOS At Home section. The big 7 bedroom flat on the Promenade that is up for sale is featured in the magazine and the present owners Mr/Mrs Magill are interviewed.
Apparently they have bought the Bedford and, as well as living on the top 2 floors, they plan to convert the ground floor to a bar/restaurant. No clue as to what type of restaurant is planned but as Mrs Magill is bemoaning the lack of a quality restaurant in Porty I assume it probably isn't going to be another Chinese takeaway
Certainly something I'm going to look forward to visiting. It would be good to have an upmarket type restaurant in Porty, especially if it's on the Prom and we could spend a night or two sitting outside with a post-dinner drink

Did other forum members get the flyer put through the door yesterday? The Bedford is reopening next Friday (29th October) under the name of "Dalriada" - anyone going along?

Sandra (or someone) - could you post the text of the flyer for the benefit of those who didn't receive it? Is there a sample menu? Website?
I'm a bit worried by the name. Is everything going to be stuffed with haggis or smothered in Glayva do you think?
Seriously, good luck to them. I think a quality restaurant will be well supported and I will certainly be giving it a bash.

We'll be there to make sure they've not "dabbled" with the IPA. The Bedford did a fantastic pint.

Thanks Sandra. What's with all the double posting btw? (I deleted it) Is this a problem with the forum?

Not quite the same saying 'I'm nipping into the Dalriada' as 'I'm nipping into the Temple'. Everybody knows it as the Temple so why not just keep it that way?
Anyway, apart from that I hope they do really well, and we'll definitely be nipping into the Temple (

) from time to time.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

Is it just Sandra or is anyone else experiencing this problem?
PS deliberately double-posting your reply to this is not funny!

well this new place sounds promising and has to be an improvment on the previous effort
wonder how long it'll take the Dada clan to get banned though

Why should I get banned from there, Babe?
They have promised me, my family and friends a warm welcome to their full a la carte restaurant, and have also told me that, in the comfortable lounge and bar area they have a selection of bites (not mosquito, I hope) and tasty spirits. Not only am I impressed that the band "Buckley's Chance" have prepared a light buffet as well as a serving of music, I am suitably intrigued by the warning to look out for forthcoming social events.
I can't wait.

Buckley's Chance
A night with Buckley's Chance is a genuine Aussie cultural experience, full of hilarity and warmth. Whatever the occasion or requirement this is the band to lend an Aussie flavour to your function or event.
£550
No worries. Just don't order coffee.

At least a name like 'Dalriada' will keep the Figgate Whins regulars away!

I hope Dalriada doesn't stand for "Back to frozen fayre in 6 weeks time" but lets face it, the odds are stacked....
I wish them well but its a tall order.

Just a quick message to wish our old neighbours all the best with their new venture - I am looking forward to Friday and as many meals as I can fit in between now and when I move! - I'm sure it will be a long term success and a benefit to Porty(place not person!) especially as a decent restaurant is one of the (few) gaps in Porty life.

Would like to go along tonight - however, we're looking after my step-grandaughter (emphasis on the
step in case anyone actually thinks I'm old enough to be grannie!) tonight. Hope to make it along soon though

We went there for coffee this morning and sat outside. It looks really good - nice people and good family atmosphere with their kids sitting with us then giving us a tour of the inside. They said they had over 200 people there last night. Well done to them!

Great to have this in Portobello.

I didn't make it along on Friday but compensated by going on Sun and Mon instead - not that I normally go out 2 nights in a row you understand
Place is lovely - clean and fresh, with a welcoming atmosphere. Menu for tapas and a la carte sounds delicious and I'll def. be going along soon for food as well as drink!
*whisper it in case Porty hears* there's a Xmas menu set to run in Dec too....

I was at the opening night for a short while, gave up after 45mins due to it being packed out. I'll be interested to see if the 'usual crowd' return over the next few weeks for the bar, or if people will move on. I thought it was grand anyway

Mr Spoon - hello!
I just had a look at the tastyspoon website - how do I know if I have a tasty spoon or not???
I thought it might be a foodie forum? What is it all about?

The secret of owning a tastyspoon is an ancient and mysterious one! (that means I dont know).
It's just my little online community, originally for students at Porty High a few years ago (it had some wonderful teacher-bashing games I was rather proud of), now its developed to have members from around the globe (which is nice!)

Aha, thanks for that MrSpoon.
I was once a pupil (didn't have students back then) at PHS.
We had the then new Language Labs though and teacher bashing was not always virtual, I'm afraid.
