Does that mean it's very stale by now?

BOOK SALE

Post by dccairns » 23 Jul 2004, 22:41

Thanks to Sandra for her offer of more books for the sale but the objective is to clear out Ever Green's remaining stock. The Peace and Justice Centre at St John's church at the corner of Princes St and Lothian Road would be glad of any spare books though.

Hope the book sale was a success! Did you get rid of all the books?

Sandra

Thanks for asking about the book sale. It was a success as we took in a reasonable amount of money but there are still quite a lot of books left. We shall probably now dispose of them to other charity shops or second hand book shops.

Glad Bob enjoyed the soup but did you try the parkin (a great Yorkshire delicacy) or the flapjacks (made by my own fair hand)?

Parkin? There was parkin? But it's not bonfire night!!!

Sorry i missed it but other half was having operation. But it would have confused me anyway, seeing parkin in July!

ANOTHER BOOK SALE!

Post by dccairns » 26 Aug 2004, 22:14

We are having another BOOK (AND CURTAIN!) SALE on SATURDAY 4 SEPTEMBER from 10 AM TO 4 PM at 230 Portobello High Street.

Teas, coffees, home baking and light lunches will be served.

Come along for some great bargains and a piece of parkin. Yes, I know it’s not bonfire night but, as one Yorkshire exile said at the last book sale, “I’d better have two pieces because you never know where the next piece of parkin’s coming fromâ€Â

Portobello Library will be having a booksale in the community room on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, in addition to the withdrawn stock they normally sell.
When I nod my head, you hit it!

Thanks for that info, Lindsay - i got five or six books, including a brilliant one for my youngest child, which had a main character with the same name as my boy and was anti-gender stereotyping. God bless the library.

Dccairns, I got about eight books and had some parkin, and I just wanted to say what wonderful parkin it was, bonfire night or no... :-)
Thank you!

Glad to hear you enjoyed your parkin. Maybe you would have spladooshed - or "clocked" me as they would say in Yorkshire - but I left the shop at 1 pm. If you would like the recipe, just shout.
