When a militant Palestinian jihadist group kidnaps a BBC journalist, they know the risks they are taking and the price they'll have to pay if mossad catches up with them. They have an ideology and a religion - albeit warped and misguided - which to some extent dictates their actions and tells them what is right and wrong.

Not so Rihanna, who with this annoying ditty has kidnapped a section of the English language itself. Complicit in this crime are the radio stations which play "Umbrella".

Just as Johnstone's nabbing may not be the last, expect copycat records soon - "I'll clean your pan with my bog brush, ush, ush, ush, ooh, ooh, ooh", "I'll get them off with my shoe-horn, orn, orn, orn, ow, ow, ow, ow" etc

A well reasoned and thought out argument DaDa, DaDa,DaDa ( it's catching)
Although I strive to create such an intellectual atmosphere in my house all they do is shout " turn that noise off , it's daeing ma heid in"
or Mr Soupy's grumbled "it sounds like a coo f@rting over a dyke",
(he did vary that the other day, Sigur Ros are being used in a tv ad, he said the usual but added "after ingesting helium" )

I'd never heard of it til you started this thread so I went for a look see.

I think it's fab and just the kind of mindless musical pap I'm drawn to.

It has turned into a bit of an anthem in my shop! Customers look at us all weird as we give it "La, la, la, la, oh, oh, hey, hey, lay, lay, lay, la, ola, ola, ola, ola, hey, hey, hey, hey, la, la, la, la..."

I remember when "Kiss Kiss" by Tarkan was out in Turkey, they played it constantly and everywhere. The song seemed to follow us round the planet, and then just as we thought we were safe back in Blighty, Holly chuffin Valance decided to cover it. Mwwah!
