:)
Full marks to those volunteers who helped clean up a section of the Figgate burn yesterday.
I understand that from a small section of the burn they recovered three car batteries alone. That's pretty disgusting behaviour from the louts who dumped them there.

I also noticed last night whilst having a pleasant stroll through this lovely park that there was a lot of rubbish including the actaul rubbish bin dumped in the pond next to the viewing area.
I'd gladily help out in a clear up of this area if one's organised soon.
I'll do what I can myself whilst visiting the park to help clear some of the rubbish away.

The park would also benefit from having some of the younger trees replaced that have either died after planting or been destroyed .Some would also benefit from have new stakes or just secured to their existing stakes.

Again, happy to help out in any way to do this.

Kevin

I would like to add my thanks to those people who gave up their Sunday morning for a little community service! I would name them but they are all far too modest to want that. Special mention nevertheless to Robert Davidson, our Task Force Mangager, never afraid to get his hands dirty (or his feet wet) and Tom Smith, vice chair of Portobello Community Council, who despite falling in the burn and getting soaked, carried on working for 2 hours. He puts men half his age to shame, and I should know because I'm one of them!

Well said and I'll be happy to join him for a swim the next time a clean up is organised.

FIGGATE PARK

:(
It's a shame that the portobello pupils seem to be undoing a lot of good that is done in the Figgate Park.
It might prove benefical if the Environmemtal Warden,[I think that's what they are called] popped into the park at lunchtimes now and again and had a word with the offenders or just let the pupils see that someone cares about this area.

I'll certainly have a word with any kid or adult I see dropping litter in this area.

It's something the local PTA could look at and encourage most of the kids at school to look after the park and such like in their area.
