Roller Coaster

Does anyone remember the roller coaster that used to be in the amusement park at the west end of the prom? I vaguely remember riding it when I first moved to Edinburgh in 1991, and was delighted to find a photo of it when I was looking though my "reject" photo box earlier this month.

I remember it - and also the fact that I wasn't allowed on it

however, I do remember going on it - must have been around 1988/89

I also remember the Roller coaster, was this the one done up to look like Nessie?

I remember it, and not from that long ago either....maybe late 90's.

Latterly the carriages looked like little green "nessie" type dragons - you used to see their wee heads bobbing up and down over the wall as the ride went round.
I can't remember ever being on the roller coaster but I have very clear memories of feeling very sick on the waltzers there whilst Nazareth's "This flight tonight" blared loudly

Still don't know whether the nausea was due to over consumption of candyfloss or the Woodpecker cider (sorry Bob ) - staple diet of some 14 year olds at the time. :P

How come you are so sure that it wasn't Nessie?

If it lives off Porty beach, it shouldn't be called 'Nessie' - any ideas for a name? 'Figgie' perhaps?

(I hadn't realised it was no longer there, either! Derrr!)

Actually come to think of it Porty I am not sure? do you suppose it, she/he came to porty to work during the summer hollybags?

To ECM I too was violently sick on the waltzers - does anyone remember the Carnival in Princess Street - where the Waverley Shopping Mall now is? Can you remember some of the vomit provoking amusements there?

I remember them well. The Carnival was such a treat but you were only allowed to go on one or two things. I detested the Waltzer at Porty. I never went on another. Sorry, cant shed any light on Nessies nomadic behaviour.

I vaguely remember the Carnival. Sounds silly but what I remember most about it all was the smell! Because it was enclosed I suppose it might have been a heady mix of the fumes from dodgems and the like and hot dogs!
It's the same with the speedway which used to be at Meadowbank where I grew up, I remember the sounds and the smell more than seeing the bikes racing round.

P.S. Looked for an emoticon that might suggest having a big nose! There are one or two very strange/suspect ones (emoticons, not noses) amongst the choices now available to us.
Can't begin to think what kind of subject/post might suit the stranger ones!

Competition time?

I hate to report that I didn't grow up in Edinburgh either although I have spent all my life here.

Likewise, only been "down" here seven or eight years.
