Gemini mentioned the clothes shop on the corner of Bellfield Street (garments over-priced and many with that linen/crumpled look- couldn't agree more) on the BBC thread. Prices there are way out of my league.
I get lots of stuff from the various charity shops in Porty. The fact that I'm in them very regularly has meant I've picked up some real bargains over the years.
My son loves them too and will happily rummage through toys, books etc while I browse and try on stuff. We can often spend an hour or so going round the shops and come home with a bag of goodies for just a few quid.
Any other thrifties out there?

I love vintage sci fi books, which are almost invariably out of print. I will happily pay silly money for a scarce book on eBay or abebooks, but so much more fun to get it from a charity shop for 50p.
I love buying records too... Releases from the 50s rarely cost more than a pound or two, and the packaging (especially of US imports) is well above the standards of new CDs. I've actually framed a couple of records (thank you, Projections) which look fabulous on the wall.
Yes, I love Porty's charity shops.

I'm pretty well known in Porty's charity shops as I spend sooo much time (and money) there... A few days ago I went into the cancer research shop intending to glance at a book or two and spent nearly £50 - oops!

All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

I've been using charity shops for about twenty-five years now, partly for clothes, although, sadly, with the passing of years and the increase in my assets, I now can't find anything in my size. But like Alex and Bellybabe, I find them wonderful for books - I am a voracious reader (and collector) of detective storeis and have found some gems in charity shops. Having lost my entire original collection in the floods, I am delighted to find I can often replace my original '50's and '60's paperback editons from charity shops. I aslo collect elephants, and have also found some really nice ones of these.
And it's nice to know you are helping a charity.
I think my prize so far from the Porty shops is a hardback copy of 'Londinium' in pristine condition, with its dust cover still intact. But the royal blue, furry, elephant hot-water bottle cover, with the red tartan feet runs it a close second.
What gems have other people picked up?
