RIP Elma Burton

Post by SoupDragon » 17 Apr 2008, 23:09

Born Elizabeth Smith in Moncrieff Ter. she lived most of her childhood in Melville Street ( Bellfield Street now)
Her dad, Harry Smith, was manager of the Baths so Ethel, Lilian and Elma grew up in Portobello, attending Towerbank Primary
They all loved swimming and attended several clubs at the Baths
Elma and Lilian trained as nurses, Ethel as a teacher.
Elma took ill less than a fortnight ago
She had CT scans and a liver biopsy. The results of the biopsy yesterday confimed secondary tumours on her liver.
She was transferred from surgical ward in RIE to Marie Curie Hospice at Faimilehead today, where she died at 16.45

Goodbye to a wonderfull mum and a proud and much loved grandmother.

Sorry to hear this. I haven't had to face the death of a parent yet, but I guess most of us are at that age. Sounds like you are a very close family and I'm sure you have lots of happy memories to comfort you. Best wishes.

I am very sorry indeed to hear this. My deepest condolences to you, and your family. I know how you feel. I have already lost one very beloved parent. I send you my deepest sympathies. I know in years to come your treasured memories will be a great comfort, and a sadness. I know mine have. All my sympathy.

Thank you to everyone for the support.
To those who sent pms sorry if I've not replied.
Yesterday was a quiet dignified funeral, immediate family only. No flowers as they'd made mum feel nauseous when she was in hospital but we all put sprigs of rosemary on the coffin
No priest/minister
Mr Soupy did a lovely eulogy.
The funeral director was a woman, sure mum would be pleased with that.

Last night I slept through the night, first time since mum took ill
