Raffles

Post by Porty » 18 May 2008, 23:31

I'm not a fan of raffles, especially ones where you have to fill all your details in on all the tickets you purchase. They can be long drawn affairs even discounting the pranksters that claim a prize when they know their ticket is the wrong colour.

However, last night I did enter a raffle at the rugby club dinner, I won the first prize, its a prize that I am delighted with and I'm sure Ali would be too. Jim Telfer and Roy Laidlaw were the speakers.

The raffle prize is a commemorative tie for the English rugby grand slam winning team in 1990. It is signed by Jim who was coach that day and by Roy who played in the Scottish winning team in 1984. Its a beauty: white embellished with the English rose and "Grand Slam 1990". I'm going to take it to projections and get it framed.

Thanks.

To be honest, as the complete dinner it was a bit disappointing. While its great to have some names there, no one really delivered a cracking speech. A lot of folk fell asleep at some points

Next year here we come...
