What freeware do you use?

We've covered this topic before, but with all our new members, I think it's worth revisiting.

What freeware do you use or recommend?

My choices are treepad lite http://www.treepad.com/treepadfreeware/ atmosphere lite http://www.relaxingsoftware.com/naturesounds.htm and opera http://www.opera.com/.

Treepad is a text editor that you can use to pull together all sorts of wee snippets of information. Atmosphere generates relaxing sounds while you sit at your PC. And Opera is a faster (and safer) browser than Internet Explorer.

Don't forget Ad Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ while you're looking at Freeware -- there's a lot of spyware about, and Ad Aware will uncover all sorts of nasties on most PCs - even if you have an anti-virus and firewall.

For a really good image viewer I use 'irfanview' which can be downloaded from www.irfanview.com

I use it too! Paint Shop Pro is my default image editor but Irfanview is great. You can even use it to make screensavers or burn CDs of your favourite slideshows.

I ditched Opera in favour of tabbed browsing via Firefox.

I also use and abuse the Gimp.

I remove internet detritus with Ad-aware and Spybot - Search & Destroy

Having checked for necessary permission or copyright to make sure I am entirely within the law and aren't d/l anything illegal, I make use of eMule and Soulseek filesharing clients.

I play my music with winamp.

I use JAlbum to generate web photo albums.

I run Sambar, which is a free web server.

I love free software, and getting software free is nice too.

I wrote a game for X11/Linux and gave it away.

We use soulseek as well.
It's very unusual not to find what you're after from there although sometimes you can wait a while for a user to come on-line.
It's great to be able to try before you buy.
