Re: Portobello Reporter Autumn 2008
I wonder if its possible to opt out of getting a printed copy delivered through my letterbox (or in my case this issue, dumped in the common stair).Bob Jefferson wrote:Now available online at http://porty.org.uk/reporters/index.php along with archive editions all the way back to Summer 2001.
Presuming not.
Im not a big fan of junk mail/unsolicited mail , Id rather just view it online if the notion takes me to show an interest.
If you really don't want "junk mail" (although a free local newspaper is not what I'd call junk) try this site http://www.stopjunkmail.org.uk/features ... k_mail.php
Id say it falls into the unsolicited category though, I much prefer to read these things online than cluttering up my letterbox or common stairwell.Poppy wrote:If you really don't want "junk mail" (although a free local newspaper is not what I'd call junk) try this site http://www.stopjunkmail.org.uk/features ... k_mail.php

Or you could just stick it in the recycle bag? There are only 4 x 8 page issues a year so it's not exactly a huge problem. Personally, Im rather grateful that local volunteers take the time to produce a high quality community newspaper and deliver it to my doorstep free of charge but everyone's different I suppose.
Im not saying the volunteers dont do a good job, and certainly didnt say I wasnt grateful that people put it together, the fact I never said I was grateful doesnt mean I aint! Im just saying that I prefer to read it online and that I dont like issues dumped in the common stairwell! I always take time to read the Porty Reporter, but normally do this online... ... ...Bob Jefferson wrote:Or you could just stick it in the recycle bag? I have to say I always look forward to receiving my copy of the Portobello Reporter. It has helped put some faces to names over the years (not that I needed any help with yours Bob) and my own offspring have appeared in it a couple of times too................have some yellowing copies stashed away somewhere.
Em, you're getting me mixed up with Marya, Poopy (you've not been called that for a whilePoppy wrote:Are your offspring called Bart and Lisa??teddygirl wrote:my own offspring have appeared in it a couple of times too................have some yellowing copies stashed away somewhere.
Portobello Reporter Autumn 2008
On another thread - Portobello Reporter Summer 2008 (why start another one?) - on 6th September, Michael Traill complained about copies of the Reporter being left on his stairs.
I replied that the distribution company definitely don't condone this and asked him to send his home address to the Reporter's email address, which is given on page 2 of each issue, so that I could let the manager know.
His response was "Don't loose any sleep over it - I don't".
So, I sent him a PM, again asking for the info. He has not replied.
So, my question to him now is - "Why don't you do something helpful instead of posting negative messages on the forum?"

I agree, I like the Porty Reporter anaw, I just dont like it dumped in the stair, and again I agree, I am getting a wee bit grumpy!magbagpuss wrote:micheal , maybe you do need a holiday , you appear to be getting a wee bit grumpy. personally I enjoy the Porty Reporter .It's our community , let's savour it and stop looking for faults.
Now as I said in an earlier posting today, ive said enough on the matter.
Michael- why not get some revenge on Brenda and the Porty Reporter? I Have a plan. When you are asked directly to respond to some query about the Reporter. Why not leave your responses in totally unrelated threads and let them look for them? And if you get a PM from them in your mailbox, why not respond to someone else entirely? Fire with fire my friend.
Hope that helps.

Nah, I dont share your sentiments of revenge, sorry. But you could try taking your own advice and see how you get on with things.. .. ..Porty wrote:Michael- why not get some revenge on Brenda and the Porty Reporter? I Have a plan. Not at all wangi, I have no problems having to pay my council tax and to be honest I very much doubt the cost of producing and delivering the outlook will come to more than a few pence per household, if that.wangi wrote:That must have cheered you up no end Michael! And to rub it in just think -- you pay for them too through your council tax...
It's the young ones that have the Victor Meldrew moments these days it seems.
Look on the bright side it is an easy to follow paper trail.michael_traill wrote:I leave the flat to go to work this morning and what do I find dumped in the stairwell, 6 Outlooks! Must have came yesterday at some point. Blooming free council newspapers, my block is destined to a life of being blighted by free newspapers stacking up.lol
Aye, and ofcourse that was 6 copies that I was able to deposit into the recycling bin to do my bit to save the planet..hahaPorty wrote:Look on the bright side it is an easy to follow paper trail.michael_traill wrote:I leave the flat to go to work this morning and what do I find dumped in the stairwell, 6 Outlooks!
