Inspired by the belly dancing on the beach recently, Froglette and I bought tickets for the Bellydance Banquet, a fringe show taking place in the Morocco Walima restaurant. It's a 3 course Moroccan lunch with bellydancing entertainment from Lorna Gow, who takes classes in Porty Swim Centre, Musselburgh and elsewhere.
Lunch was great and Lorna, who has a regular Friday night slot at the Walima, moves in the most beguiling manner. But don't take my word for it, the Scotsman gave it a four star rating. Read the review here.
Not surprisingly, the show is selling out fast. Grab a ticket while you can. Ends 29 August.
This would be a great venue for a forum members night out. It's not that big so maybe we could book the whole place?
What made the show interesting was the compere, Nick Child on this occasion, who gave us a little background to the bellydancing tradition and how it has developed in recent times.
And yala beena? It means 'go girl!' I'll be trying to fit it into as many conversations as poss from now on.
Yala beena!
Re: Yala beena!
Bob, while this sounds like a nice idea (I'm always ready for a night out!), we would all see who we were, and it would take away the fun of Porty Person bagging and spladooshing on the High Street! (Apart from those who work at RoS and KNOW who they are!)Bob wrote:This would be a great venue for a forum members night out.
Maybe we could all wear masks .........
By the way, I'm still not sure how anyone manages to bag and spladoosh, as I haven't a clue who anyone is! (I have doubts about myself!)

Very true! I've only been posting a couple of months, and I think I've already given away my sex, football team, places I have lived etc., etc.!Marya wrote:Must admit it's good fun not knowing who the posters are, but as has been pointed out to me, the longer you've been posting the more you reveal about yourself and the easier it starts to become to identify people.
But a masked meal might be fun!!!!!!! Only if one can eat through the mask of course!
