ultimate band lineup - fantasy battle of the bands

Post by Dadaist » 17 Aug 2004, 22:29

Post your ultimate band lineup. Singer, 2 guitarists, keyboards, bass, drums, one extra instrument of your choice. Bonus points if you can come up with a band name and a song you'd like your supergroup to cover. Any other details, like how bitter their eventual split is, will also score points.

As time goes on you can also adjust your lineup as many times as you like as long as you post the re-constituted lineup and explain why you've made the change.

You are allowed to blatantly rip off anything and everyone as long as your stolen band name differs by at least one letter. Once everyone is happy with their band I will post a poll and the imaginary battle of the bands will commence.

Im thinking Clarence Clemons on sax and maybe Adam Durritz as lead singer. Thunder Road is the first track.

Got to be Angus Young on lead guitar, John Bonham on drums, Mike Patton on vocals, Flea on bass and Stone Gossard on rhythm guitar.

Ray Manzarek could do a stint on the keyboards.

Not thought of a name or actually how bizarre this line up would actually sound.

Lead Vocal - Lee "Scratch" Perry

Guitar 1 - Steve Hillage
Guitar 2 - Jimi Hendrix

Bass - Will Sinnott

(instead of keyboards) Xylophone - Patrick Moore

Drums - Lyn Farmer

Extra member - LX Patterson on mixing desk & heavy dub echo

Band Name - "Herb Garden"

-----------------------------------------

Herb Garden only ever played one gig, of which a bad quality cassette bootleg is rumoured to exist. After their intro, which lasted 80 minutes, they achieved musical perfection and were promptly abducted by aliens.

Up front it has to be IGGY POP
On guitars JIMI HENDRIX and KEITH RICHARDS
On bass GAYE ADVERT
On drums KEITH MOON
On keyboards, harmonica and general growling sounds TOM WAITS

The band refuses to have a name, make recordings or tour. Instead they turn up unannounced at bingo halls and social clubs. Only you know where they are playing next and they play songs that you request.

In which case, I feel it may be necessary. Kylie as dancer.

The Roberts - Lineup -

Rhythm section

Robert Wyatt - Drums. Wyatt was formerly drummer with Soft Machine. A confident improviser, his style contrasts well with -
Robbie Dunbar - Bass. Dunbar is best known as half of Sly and Robbie, the Jamaican rhythm section/production team that has been behind dozens of hit records. His precise style provided an effective foil for Grace Jones in the 1980s, and meshes well with -

Guitars

Robert Fripp - Rhythm guitar. Fripp made his name with King Crimson and Van Der Graaf Generator. He is a frequent collaborator with a wide range of musicians - David Sylvian, Andy Summers, Brian Eno, The Roches, Peter Gabriel, Toyah, Daryl Hall... He has a tightly looped, metronomic style, which provides a fine backdrop for -
Robert Smith - Lead Guitar. Smith is perhaps an eccentric choice, best known for vocals with his own band, The Cure. But he was also guitarist with Siouxsie and the Banshees. An aggressive, gothic style, which suits -

Vocals

Robert Johnson - King of the Delta Blues Singers. Seventy years dead, and still speaking to us from beyond the grave. Johnson's insistent vocal style dominates the band.

The Roberts' debut long player, "Hellhound on my tail", fuses New Orleans blues with gothic ambience to create a unique and terrifying sound. Recorded live in front of an invited audience at the West Runton Pavilion, the most gripping aspect of the recording is the interplay between the band members. Tension between Wyatt and Fripp is particularly evident on their cover version of "Baby One More Time", with Fripp on guitar noticeably attempting to reign-in Wyatt's exuberance on drums.

A live tour is planned, possibly with a different drummer. Rumours that Maureen Tucker (ex Velvet Underground) is changing her name to Bobbi have been strenuously denied.

I am absolutely caught between two genius bands - Alex & flearoy you've both come up with serious goods.

Knopfler & Black versus Chopin. Genius.

Fripp, along with the conflict and energy bursting out of The Roberts. Can you feel the love in this band.

This is squaring up to be an all-star Battle Royale - thank you everyone for your input thus far.

Shredded Beef. Kung Fu fighting. Simon Cowell is knocking at your door.

Thanks for the feedback Dadaist. Have to agree with you about Flearoy's band. Chopin is a stroke of genius.

Flearoy my sister, appears to have good musical knowledge, but we were having a conversation about opera's last night and she told me that the only opera she had ever seen live was phantom of the opera. I found this very amusing.
