tree surgery - live pictures

Well OK, not quite live because they have finished now, but here's what Ross and Ben, the tree surgeons, did with the sycamore in our back garden this morning:

Image
If you look carefully you can just spot Ross in the red safety helmet. This gives you an idea of the scale of the problem.

Image
Ross seems to be sawing the branch he's standing on, but I'm sure he knows what he is doing.

Image
Ben sensibly stays on the ground to cut branches.

While Ross does the dangerous stuff.

And here's the result. It's still a big tree, but we can see a little more daylight. Anyone want some logs?

That's some size of tree Bob

So what have you done with the leaves?

Nothing. I'm waiting for Autumn to do its thing. The guys would have taken the timber away, but that was going to cost another £100 so I asked them just to pile it up in a corner of the garden. It certainly entertained our neighbours across the burn in Adelphi for an hour or two, though probably not quite as much as the time I lopped a branch myself and fell off the ladder. You can't beat a bit of slapstick.

Good thinking. I'll whittle my own canoe and commute to work up the Figgy Burn. Even more eco-friendly than the Car Club!
