New Housing next to Amusement Arcade

Post by Guest » 02 Jun 2003, 16:04

In the Evening News last week under public notices there was mention of demolishing one of the Amusement Arcade Buildings (where the bowling is, I think) to erect new flats. This is the first I've heard of it. Anyone got any more info? :D

Hi,

There's already a topic about this under proposed development at Fun Park.

Hope there's some info there that's useful.

Hi

I just wanted to say that porty has a lot going for it but the fun park end of the prom has been shabby since the 80s. I can see how this is an integral part of any self respecting sea side resort but surely we can do better than this? There is a market for the slot machines and bingo (each to their own!). Although I dont want a Scottish Blackpool I feel that a tasteful casino could be the compromise that saves the tradition but presents it in a more up market way.
I would also like to draw attention to the shocking state of the swing park next to tower bank school on the prom. I often take my nephews there to play but there is always broken glass. The beach isnt much safer with dogs dirt everywhere (what happened to the summer ban for dogs on the beach?).

Hi regarding Kirsty remarks about dogs fouling the beach,I agree with her wholeheartedly that responsible dog owners 'such as myself' clean up any mess that the dogs create 'which I do' although admittedly there are a few owners who do not! which in turn gives all dog owners a bad reputation.

Reagarding the mess in the Children's Prom playgound and elsewhere in Portobello, maybe responsible parents/carers etc. could educate their children how to bin their litter, chip papers etc. or perhaps the enviromental wardens should be partolling the areas most affected ie. prom and High Street (assuming they have the staff to do so)
