Honesty is alive and well and passing through Portobello ...

Post by Jay » 02 Sep 2004, 09:43

Sorry, I don't mean by that that 'honesty' doesn't live in Porty either!

I managed to lose my wallet on the 49 bus yesterday evening, with ALL my cards in :angry1: :crybaby: - my bank cards, my work staff card, my Lothian pass (with £24 still left on it!), and a host of other useful items. Naturally, I assumed it would not be handed in, not with bank cards in it. But on ringing Lothian this morning, I am astonished to discover that it WAS handed in, and appears to have ALL the cards inside. :blob2: :blob3: :blob4: All I can say is, if whoever handed it in reads this forum, I am extremely, extremely grateful and delighted to have my cynical view of humanity proved wrong. You are a wonderful person. If I knew who you were, I would buy you many drinks! :occasion5: :occasion7: (or whatever is appropriate, if you are under age!)

That's good news, jay. I've lost my purse a couple of times and had it handed in, contents intact, to the police station - it gives you such a good feeling.

Some years ago in our pre-children life Mrs Magnolia celebrated her birthday by leaving passports, money, credit cards and every conceivable useful bit if identity paper in the seat pocket of an aeroplane on an internal flight in Peru.

We found this out some while after leaving the plane and having had a swally or two to get over the fear accumulated by the HUGE screwdriver in the cockpit at the start of the flight and the peruvian squealing episode later on in the flight that could only be translated by our neighbour as 'plane is down'

But everything including cash turned up for us to pick up at the airport a day or so later.

SO I continue to have faith in human nature and the first instinct being, amazingly, to help others when in a position to do so (or so to do)

SO hurrah again for mankind in general and of course I shall now lose my possessions with a light heart once installed in sunny Porty!

Wow, Mr M, that's amazing. I on the other hand had my money, passport and tickets stolen in Colombia, at the airport, by the airport security staff. So I'm even more amazed you got Mrs M's important stuff back!

I too am amazed at Mrs. Magnolia's good luck. But then, I'm still amazed at mine. I have just returned from Annandale Road with all my precious plastic safely in my pocket, which I keep clutching compulsively from time to time, to make sure it is still there - the wallet, not the pocket! Bellybabe's experience in Colombia is similar to Heath Row - sadly - but I am alarmed at the thought of Mr. M. 'lightheartedly' losing his possessions in Porty, just on my experience!!!

Btw - your plane journey beats my weekend's train experiences hollow! :pale:

I used to work in the Lost Property Department at Fettes and it is a very, very busy department! Like most things I think you'll find that there are more good people than bad out there and most found property is handed in :D

 It does seem like quite a lot but it's not really! It's more the VARIETY than the quantity! I do tend to get bored after a while and take a total change of direction - just the other day I thought about becoming a Registrar...........
