online grocery shopping

Post by bellybabe » 02 Sep 2004, 11:49

Tried to find the thread where we already talked about this but couldn't, thanks to the temperamental search facility.
Anyway, I decided, needing some shopping, to try the Asda website, and they were indeed allowing me to shop online. It didn't explain that they are starting it in two weeks' time, so when it offered me a delivery date three weeks from when i tried to shop, I wasn't overly impressed, but thought it might be that. No explanation on the website, of course.
Then I tried shopping...and failed dismally.
I tried to search for bread. It offered me a choice of two white loaves, a granary loaf, and some bizarre rolls I couldn't even imagine. So i tried for milk. They had a few strange types of milk, and some "milk drinks", but could I buy six pints of full fat? No way. Tried cereal. There were a few high-sugar, high-salt "Kids'" types, but anything basic or healthy? Nope.
Is this the way their website is all the time, or is it because they've not actually finished it? and if they haven't finished it, surely there shold be something saying that?
I was very disappointed, and had to trudge back (via the mousemat and favourites) to Tesco.com, who did at least have bread, milk and cereal, and who could in fact deliver it the next day.
Can anyone give me hope that Asda will improve?

The thread was about the city car club, but we diverted to on-line shopping. Someone did say Asda was getting on-line soon.

And you will be pleased to know that someone is working on the search facility.

Well it's a cheeky little sauvignon blanc this evening. It can be a little tart sometimes but I'm not averse to a little tart now and again.

Bellybabe,

Went to Asda last night and they are advertising there on-line shopping service now. I didn't bring the leaflet to work so can't remember much about it but it is just over £4 to order, so I think that's cheaper than Tesco.

Asda online

Mimpty

Used Asda online last week and was very impressed both with the ease of use of the website and the choice compared to some other online supermarkets. They forgot one bag of our shopping and we had to phone them back several times but they did re-deliver the missing item that same day - some of them were larger pack sizes - at no extra cost!

I tried Asda last week but since I'm now so embedded in my Tesco site it seemed to take ages and I ended up only getting half of what I really needed just so I could shut the computer down  I'll give it another go sometime but I've rekindled my affair with the lovely Tesco delivery men.

Ali registered with the Asda site the other night but had some problems even getting to shop!

He thinks it might just be a browser problem so we haven't given up just yet.

It might be interesting to compare the service with that on offer from Tesco.

Even as far as the loveliness of the delivery men, Epykat!
