Web address- your opinions please

Post by Porty » 04 Sep 2004, 18:03

We are about to set up a new business, we are in finance, Money in other words.

I searched for ages to try and get a memorable web address, short and pertinent. I have come up with

www.Mpeople.co.uk

We don't have a site as yet so clicking is no good. What do you think? If you don't like it then please speak up. Its not too late to change it

People might think you've got something to do with that dodgy music outfit.

Do you think we should be allowing Porty to carry out free market research like this?

I know.
However, I disagree with the dodgy bit. "How can I love you more" (album version) is one of the great songs. IMHO

Ain't love a surprise-aint that bad either.

Heather Small has a voice that sounds like she desparately needs someone to perform the Heimlich Manoeuvre on her.
What's that all about?

V Good. Short memorable and snappy. Unlike www.walkeastlothian.co.uk, which I saddled myself with!

Thanks for that. When I saw 66% of people thought it sucked my spirit sank. Even although it was only 2:1.

Seriously Porty. It's a great address. Nab it now. It costs peanuts to register a co.uk address, so worst case scenario is that you've spent a fiver on a URL you never used.

<Edit: Just realised you've already bought it. Am I embarrassed or what?>

Dont be, it could have been the difference between missing out or not. Thanks for the heads up. Im sure we paid more than a fiver! I sat for hours playing around before i came up with it. The word Mortgage is done to death.
Mpeople.com is a consultancy firm in San Francisco.

Are you familair with how Google adwords work? I know a little about it and am a bit fascinated. Think we may try this route for leads.

I'm an adwords publisher, and find it a great source of revenue on my website. An essential resource for you is here. Lots of debate which I think you'll find fascinating.

The price of a co.uk address has gone up since I last checked but UKreg is still doing them for £2.95 a year (two years minimum).

I like it. We've looked for your web page before but only using google. This is short and memorable - a must for a good commercial website, i'd have thought.

Go on, Porty. Give them a job in finance. They could sing adverts for your company and everything. You could join in too, like Howard in the HBOS ads.

Have you seen the rather funny pic circulating round the Internet with him on it? We are thinking of toning down the language and using it in the shop. I will email you it when I go to work. I just pray you are not easily offended.

Sounds good to me. You could do all sorts of things with the M - it would make a clear and recognisable logo for a start (assuming you are using the same name for the shop and the site). "Dial M for Mortgage?"

Sadly not open yet JAy. Did think about having a look and not introducing myself. Cultivating an air of mystery (or just chicken)!
