Bob, have you ever thought about moving to Morningside? Because I think you are becoming increasingly frustrated by things which are impossible to change. Don't get me wrong - each individual thing you suggest has its own merits, but the totality of what you would like to see may be interpreted by others as overly authoritarian.

So far have had CCTV, Neighbourhood Watch, Traffic Calming, Litter Fines, Dog Fines, Noise Fines and fresh basil.

Rather than trying to externalise the peace which you seek, have you considered relaxing a bit instead? Think Punk. Go on, throw the rulebook out the window and live & let live. Don't make me ASBO you!!

Yes, but it does kick start a debate.

Difficult but not impossible.

It may.

I wish to make it clear that I don't wish to ban fresh basil or the growing of it as long as it's for personal use.

I know, I know - but there are so many things that need to be sorted and nobody can be bothered because they are too busy relaxing, don't you see? Have you ever had a noisy neighbour? Would you like mine?

I am very lucky my neighbours are very nice and quiet :D

Though I did once live in a stair where the neighbours were horrendously noisy and it can get you down, especially when you want to sleep and they want to party..

I went back to a flat I had recently vacated to retrieve some mail. The door was all taped up and a neighbour informed me that the current owner had just been arrested for stabbing his girlfriend to death. I never did get that mail.

Only after the last tree has been cut down, only after the last river has been poisoned, only after the last fish has been caught, only then will you find, that money cannot be eaten.

Bongos. We were plagued by bongo playing in our last flat. The problem was not so much the noise, but the lack of rhythm.

Our new neighbours have got a dog (those of you in the know will therefore know I love dogs - usually) It barks every morning from 6.45am onwards until I leave for work about 8am. Thereafter - and all weekend - it barks intermittently. Her barking alone is bad enough. However, she then starts off the other 5 dogs who live in close proximity. I am now living in Portobello's answer to Battersea Dogs Home.
