Longest time spent as a resident of Portobello

Post by Porty » 15 Nov 2004, 23:20

I wonder who is the longest surviving resident of Portobello, the person or persons that have lived in the vicinity for the longest time? Wouldn't it be great if they have a PC.

Leave instructions for one of your great grandchildren to do a search on the then-declassified 2001 census (it takes 100 years), sorting by postcode.

or

Start hanging round local nursing homes - pretending to check the fire extinguishers or something - and ask people their ages.

or

Put an advert in the next reporter offering a prize to the oldest resident who writes in.

or

Force anyone older than yourself to leave the area, thus ensuring that you are the oldest resident.

Don't know who the oldest is but the last City of Edinburgh Census (29 April 2001) shows that out of 7,290 total residents there were 138 people aged 85 plus in Portobello (50 male and 88 female).

Here's a bit of info from the same Census that shocked me - 7 households had no bath or shower

My neighbour in Bath Street was 95. She had lived in Bath Street for over 50 years - hailed from Banff originally. And doesn't Epykat have an aunt who is about the same age, but was actually born in Portobello?
