Christmas Avatars - Wahey !!!

Post by Dadaist » 20 Nov 2004, 19:11

Oh great, Xmas avatars have started. Well I was planning on buying a better processor and more memory anyway, plus a pair of sunglasses. Because if there's one thing that has helped cure the internet of any pretence of being a tool for enhancing and exchanging knowledge and made it more like Vegas on lsd, it's the animated gif. Roll on the useless megabytes of gratuitous Yule.

You *did* know some of your avatars are 800k, didn't you?

"Oh I don't worry about all that, I just click on things!"

Yes, look at the pretty Snowmen.

"But everyone has broadband now anyway!!"

No, they don't.

*goes back to doghouse*

Couldn't the moderators put a deadline on Christmas avatars? None allowed at least until Advent - or even better December 24.

With you on this Cornerboy, but Bob has transformed into a red coated maniac dancing around a lump of ice so doesn't bode well I'm afraid :(

Since the lunatics appear to have taken over the asylum (ooh, not very pc, that), perhaps we should have a mutiny? We could confine Bob and all his co-conspirators to the brig, Christmas cheerless, until the end of January, and ban all things festive until said time.
How about it?
And we could ban the exchanging of Christmas presents. Oh, too late - that's already against the law.
All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

Perhaps I'm a little too sensitive but I find Monkeyboy's avatar thing offensive.

Anybody know which movie it's from? The guy looks a bit like Al Pacino.
I have to say I don't mind it.

I'm not too keen on it myself. Bit violent for my taste.

It's from the end scene of Scarface. It's where the bad guys have decided to play rough, and are saying hello to Tony Montana's "little friend".

I watched a lot of that film through my fingers! There were other scenes from that film that I recall being much more violent than the end one so Monkeyboy's avatar could be worse.

Never was ;) unless you clicked "view image", guess they have a bit of magic behind the scenes to stop leaching.

Try reloading the page, Marya. The cat may have been cached. Mine was, then I reloaded and got Jingle Hell.

Catz did the biz for me last year too. What a grand chap he is.

However, I think this may be as Christmassy as I get this year...but I did at least make an effort to get changed.

Don't search for avatar - maybe try searching for "xmas animated gif" ?

Also, you could try and search for a forum where the users have decked themselves out too.
