christmas lights

As far as we're concerned they're on...the house on Bath Street that always has the spectacular tree in front of the window is already brightening up our dull November days...! But it will be nice for the kids to see the actual town ones too, especially if they can be there to see them switched on..
All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

.....ambition makes you look pretty ugly
Is there some sort of ceremony?
Prior to Portobello, I lived in the South Side and the South Side Association had a ceremony with the local councillor and "celeb" to switch on the lights at a carol singing service followed by a wee party afterwards for the association/comm. council and local school kids who had been singing.
It would be nice if that could be replicated here.

Any excuse to get in touch with Gail, eh Bob!Bob wrote:There were no plans for an 'official' switch-on, but at this evening's CC AGM, and after several glasses of wine, the subject was discussed (several hours after the meeting had finished) and um, watch this space....
Or maybe we could get "Joanna" in a big pink dress to do the honours

Can I just say how fab it is that 'joy' started a Christmas lights thread?
In the greater magnolian tribal house the Christmas tree and the decos and stuff went up on Christmas Eve and not a moment before, and then came down on 12th night (arguments every year about when 12th 'night' actually is notwithstanding). If I had my way it would perhaps always be thus in this branch hutch of the magnolian family, but its a bit tricky when Blue Peter, the Tweenies, CBeebies, Art Attack, Newsround and the ads keep telling folk that Christmas is HERE! NOW! NOW!
Grant Stotts column in the Evening 'News' talked about the unwritten rule of radio being that Christmas songs were not played until 12 day before Christmas. Which is fine until you begin to worry that people might think that IS the 12 days of Christmas...
Oh Boo, it ain't the same nowadays, is it?
