Buying Wine

Post by Porty » 30 Nov 2004, 21:02

Anyone got good sites from which to buy wine?

In the past I've bought some great stuff from (Look away Gemini and dc) Tesco. At the moment they have a superb champagne that we got for our xmas night out last year at £10 a bottle. Where else should I look?

Tesco for us. Always seem to have good half price offers, and excellent delivery ( 2 hours slots)

We alternate between TEsco and Laithwaites. Tesco are good if we're feeling poorer, but Laithwaites are great.

We like Majestic, they phone you before they deliver to see when you'll be in - much better than leaving at the bottom of the flat's stairs and not letting you know they'd been, as one company did who shall remain nameless.....ok it was Laithwaites. However Laithwaites have been good on other occasions.

Started with Virgin when they were dishing out £20 off vouchers and it was ok, but not so good without the vouchers. However if you can get a voucher for a first time user I'd recommend them :D

We had Virgin for a while and after that inital cheap offer they were absolutely terrible! Had a slight problem with Laithwaites over their Father's Day offer, guaranteed to arrive on time and didn't, but they're very quick to compensate and apologise.

Majestic is best for delivery - they can give you an evening slot.

Laithwaites although can be dodgy with delivery though offer some really good quality wine.

I'd never heard of Laithwaites until now. Had a quick peek and it looks classy.

Laithwaites

Laithwaites seem to run most of the branded wine clubs, such as Sunday Times, Radio Times etc (not sure if they do run those particular ones, but you get the drift).

Valvona and Crolla have an excellent selection in a wide price range and they'll give you a one hour delivery window.

All this talk of wine is making me feel more and more festive - especially as it's now December! \:D/ :joker: :drunken:

I checked out some of the above recommendations and wanted to buy lots of wine from them all - must be getting into the festive spirit - or trying my damnedest to...

Peter Green in Marchmont.

He'll never be as cheap but each bottle will have had some personal chat and will taste just as you would expect for the money you paid, or, often, better. I think he's like the mountain though - you go to him!

Don't buy your cooking wine there though, buy your specials to share with good friends before they get drunk.
