Invisible cotton...

Post by bellybabe » 14 Dec 2004, 15:53

I speak to my mother on the phone once a week, when she does her Peter Kay bit and tells me who's died and how much bacon costs in the co-op and what the teletext says the weather is doing in Edinburgh. I usually do it when it's my turn to get up early with youngest offspring on sunday, when I'm still half asleep - as long as I say "Uh-huh" a lot she doesn't seem to notice.

This week she told me all about some trousers she's got for her holiday next week, and how they needed turning up (she's only wee, me mam). Then she told me she bought some invisible cotton to do it with. Never having heard of it, I thought she might be pulling my leg. Especially when she then said, "Have you ever tried threading a needle with invisible cotton? It's almost impossible...because you can't see the thread!!!". I thought that was the punchline and it really was a joke...but then she said "It took me 40 minutes! When I bought it on the market, I asked the woman if she had any invisible cotton, and she said did I want dark or light, and I said "What difference does it make if it's invisible?", and she said she didn't really know, so I got the light one. Maybe if I'd got the dark one I'd have been able to see it to thread the needle with!". :-s

Now perhaps you begin to understand why I am the way I am...

Presumably if she'd bought the dark one and could see to thread the needle, she'd have been able to take it back and complain that it wasn't invisible? And how does she know she bought it if it's invisible?

 :-k

And will this thread become invisible and if so do we blame Bob for deleting it. How will he find it to delete? :?
Only after the last tree has been cut down, only after the last river has been poisoned, only after the last fish has been caught, only then will you find, that money cannot be eaten.

lol BB @ your mum's chat

I have to say that I possess invisible thread. It's most useful indeed - saves you having to have lots of different colours of thread. The wee wool shop at the top of Marlborough Street sells it

*is now wondering whether she possesses light or dark invisible thread*

I can vouch for your Mum! I've got the 'light coloured' invisible thread which, when put near dark colours is no longer invisible. It also doesn't work in a sewing machine for some reason possibly coz it's not thread really, it's very thin plastic stuff....... :)
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

I usually buy it in John Lewis, Porty but the last lot (believe it or not) I actually got in the dreaded Scotmid :!: :)
If you can't find it in the shop ask the Security Guard, he knows where everything is :!: I think he's really the Manager - in disguise
