Talk Porty upgrade

Post by wangi » 24 Sep 2010, 11:16

Talk Porty will be unavailable, or with reduced functionality, for 30-45 minutes at some point over the next few days.

This is to allow migration to an upgraded forum implementation and a new design.

Ok; that's the upgrade performed.

...and obviously there are a few changes! So any and all questions - fire away.

Oooooo. I'm enjoying exploring this shiny new forum 8)

I see that on some profiles it tells you which forum that user is most active on and even which topic, but that doesn't appear for all users. Any reason?

Like how we can now upload attachments and am intrigued by the 'add friend' and 'add foe' buttons! How do they work then?

Looks v snazzy, well done.

Am looking for the equivalent of the 'new posts' button that I used to use on the old format - can someone point me in the direction?

Many thanks

What you want is Search (on the black bar) / View new posts.

Marya, will look into those questions.

Found the answer to the ' friend or foe' one in the FAQ section. Seems to say that if you mark someone as a 'foe' then all their posts will automatically be hidden from you. Now who shall I start with?

Top stuff Mr Wangi. Love the look and the little PM button.

Yeah i really like it. Took me a while to suss the "full editor" button but I love the look of it all. The multiple PM feature is also good. Well done Wangi!!

Should we have a two word story to celebrate?

Well if you don't already have a Talk Porty account then you can use you Facebook account instead (if you have one)... And knowing how I personally hate having to create accounts like wild that can't be a bad idea!

So on the register and login pages there are now "login with facebook" buttons - click those and then accept the request for authorisation from Facebook and you're in.

(works too for folk already registered here - log out and try it)

Ah! Thought for one awful moment it meant everything I posted on here would appear on my wall on fb.

A few tweaks made tonight - latest 5 threads now shown on the main index; (re)added some information to the index and show contact email info more prominently.

...And the search should work better.
