Vote for the Porty wind turbine!

Post by Tommy Black » 17 Nov 2011, 01:58

Out of nearly 1000 projects across the UK that signed up, PEDAL and Greener Leith are through to the final 19 in the Energyshare awards (one of only two Scottish group left in the running). We stand to win up to £80,000 towards creating a community wind turbine at Seafield. If you can vote for our project before the 3rd of December we'd be massively grateful!

Vote for us at http://www.energyshare.com/voting

(we're in the 'medium' category – note you only get one vote per project category)

If you have previously supported our project on the Energyshare website, this is not the same as voting! All supporters still need to place their votes if they want us to win the funding.

Hopefully Energyshare funding will be another significant step in getting the turbine whirling round creating green energy, community funds and a sense of hope for the future! You can find out more about the project in our Frequently Asked Questions at http://www.pedal-porty.org.uk/energy/wind-project

Spread the word

Please ask your friends, family and colleagues to support us by …

- forwarding this page to them by e-mail
- posting it on your Facebook page
- adding the Energyshare voting widget (available at http://www.pedal-porty.org.uk or at http://www.energyshare.com) to your website and/or Facebook page, and
- putting the word out through Twitter

… and ask them to vote for Portobello & Leith Community Wind Energy Project. (You can sign up to Energyshare using your Facebook account if you prefer this to using your e-mail account, then share the voting link with all your Facebook friends.)

A huge thank you to all our supporters

And when you vote just make sure you do - it's not the most straight forward of sites! Keep going until you have confirmation.

Yes it's getting tight at the top of the medium category! If you haven't already voted please do at:

http://tiny.cc/porty-leith-wind/

Although you have to register on the Energyshare website, the whole process should only take a couple of minutes, and you can opt out of any further communications. And you can sign up with your Facebook account rather than by e-mail if you prefer that to using e-mail.

Also, please share the above link with your own friends and networks - by e-mail, Facebook and Twitter.

Voting closes tomorrow at 5PM and we need every vote to make the project a success. Only the first past the post will win funds towards their renewable energy project!

"visit this group" > "all supporters" > "total xxxx results"; it's now:

Scouts 4049 - 3948 Porty/Leith (so gaining)

Voting has closed and the winners have been announced. You'll be able to read full details here on Monday morning as well as a full report and pictures of the event. For the moment though everyone at energyshare would like to thank all the groups who have been involved and helped this to make this such a massive success.

The fund winners at the end of the day were: Hexham River Hydro, Portobello & Leith, North Devon Hospice and Shrewsbury Hydro. But of course congratulations must go to all the shortlisted groups who have made the past 3 weeks so exciting.

A huge thank you to all who voted for us on Energyshare.com – we won, beating competition from nearly 1,000 other community renewables projects from around the UK! And thanks also to those who passed the message round their networks encouraging others to vote.

The prize is funding to complete feasibility and site investigation work for a community-owned wind turbine on land at Seafield Waste Water Treatment Works. The funding is very welcome but just as valuable is the demonstration of massive support from local people for the project.

With best wishes,

PEDAL and Greener Leith
