Search functionality

Post by wangi » 27 Apr 2012, 10:10

Sorry, but I have disabled the search functionality on the forum. It was the cause of the brief outage we had the other day.

Looking into possibilities. However the problem is we have so many posts on the forum we are struggling under the load of indexing them. It might need a hosting upgrade...

As a workaround you can use Google with site:talkporty.org to limit results to the forum.

I'm really missing the search facility. Any solution in the pipeline?

Well there's one... it's down to $$! the site has really outgrown the current web hosting plan - need to look at upgrades...

Search enabled again, but using a different backend. It might be ok resource wise - we will see.

Thanks for the offer, but we'd be talking about a 7x cost increase for running the site. So I need to a) work out if it's really needed; b) figure out how the hell that could be paid in a sustainable way!

A couple of other forums I use have sponsors that help with the costs. Maybe you could try some of the local shops to see if they wanted to advertise on here?
