New Sainsburys Stores for Ednburgh's city villages

Post by rmolehusband » 16 Feb 2010, 10:45

Much as I hate to link the Evening News...

There's no mention of Porty but if The Snooze is accurate, which to be fair it almost never is, then they're talking about a dozen stores so you'd expect Porty to be on the list.

Should we start work on the acronym(s) now?

Trouble is there will be nothing to protest against, the chances are Sainsbury's will occupy an existing retail unit. Although it is difficult to identify a suitable site here in Portobello.

Phoenix House is earmarked for another use and the former Red Giant is occupied. Where else? Converting the toilets in bath street might work.

Bank of Scotland at the crossroads? In the combined Lloyds / TSB + BOS group you'd think rationalisation of branches is being sought? The plan might be to sell off Lloyds TSB branches, but...

That's a possibility. They would probably knock BOS down and extend the footprint. The Central Bar would make a great site for a grocery type outlet although it may be too small.

Lawrence Marshall's idea of creating a "square" in the gap between soon to be Subway and the fine wine store may be revived.

I seem to remember Lawrence wanting to knock down Williamfield Square for a new community centre. Bring back Lawrence, he would get my vote.

The Central is right on the corner and hopeless for parking, however, many were in favour of a new store as competition for the CO-OP. There is a site within the Baileyfield development which the major stores may make a move on.

It would certainly cause a stir and a new campaign group for sure. We had PCATS which is on it's ninth life. As it was against a superstore not a TESCO Metro it's had it's day.

We need a new acronym. Portobello Campaign Against The TESCO Metro Store. PCATTMS?????
Against ASDA. PAASDA sayable.
AGAINST LIDL. PLIDL naw!
Against Morrison's PAMS !!!!!
Portobello Against Sainsbury's. PAS, probably under copyright.

Give up, just build it.

I give up.
