Line 4 to Portobello

Post by Bob Jefferson » 18 Mar 2010, 23:07

From the Scotsman recently:

Fourth plan line tram off track

I wasn't holding my breath but still, tentative plans? This is the response I got from Edinburgh Trams:
Dear Bob

Thank you for contacting Edinburgh Trams.

I have spoken to our design team who advise that there is no Line 4 as such, and no feasibility work has been done to investigate this possibility of this line.

The City of Edinburgh Council aspires to creating a tram network for Edinburgh with the first part of this in the form of the current line being built in the form of Phase 1a. This is the key point – that future extensions will feed from existing lines

Future extensions to the tram line will generally follow those corridors where there is the highest passenger demand. The corridor to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and beyond is one that’s been identified, (this is the Line 3 proposal) and some work was undertaken on the feasibility of this in 2005, but no parliamentary powers have been granted for this option at this stage.

Taking an overview of where passenger demand exists; the London Road corridor is another connection to Phase 1a that may be considered in the future, but as I said – no formal study work has been undertaken at this point.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Tom

With an overspend on line 1 (now way past £600M) over 800 disputes on the line 1, a court case which may be lost and confidentialty clauses with the contractors ensuring those who pay the bills get the minimum amount of information.

Sadly Line 4 is no longer even a story and never was.
