I would be gobsmacked at that, I think the site is too small but I can easily be wrong. Porty could def do with a decent coffee venue. As far as I know the agents haven't marketed the property yet but a deal could have been done "off market",

Yes it certainly looks that way unless he has just taken a wee holiday. :(

First person: Have you heard they've diagnosed Reagan with dementia?

Second person: How could they tell?

Ha Ha!! (to Seanie's joke)

The subway franchisee that's coming to PHS has made a brave decision. And even although it will be part of a global chain the owner deserves respect for trying to make it work here in Porty. Here's a current Ad from Businesses for Sale.

I asked one of the lads doing the shopfitting. I might have misheard, but the secure kiosk bit looks consistent with a pawn shop.

That's all we need, a couple of shady pornographers plying their trade on Portobello High Street.

When does it open?

The specialised prawn, pawn and porn shop is scheduled to open in September but there is a possibility that it could be August. 8)

Closed already - the builders had to go to Greggs for their bacon rolls and tea this morning! Notice from the Administrator is on the door.

My mum was the Manageress in the Fords Fisherow shop (although she started in the Porty shop 20 years ago!) and got the news at 2pm yesterday from a Manageress in another shop! Not good at all for all the staff. Greggs will benefit greatly from this (When Greggs in Musselburgh was closed for a week recently for renovations, Fords doubled their takings)

I know that shop well, and also the one at Eskside. Well established parts of Musselburgh and will be a big loss. Sympathies to all the staff

Never mind the supermarkets as they will just get another supplier - what about Hearts, Ford's had the contract! It is always sad to see a local business go down and all those jobs lost even although it had been on the cards since they were taken over a couple of years ago.

Just found out on Saturday McAlpines the jewellers changed hands after 35 years of the son (Alan ?) running the shop. The person who has taken it over (Danny) was a wholesale supplier so maybe things will perk up a bit in there.

Appears that 3 presently empty premises are gearing up to open under new ownership - La Vie En Rose, Select & the shop next to Kost Konscious (sorry, can't remember it's name, was the health & beauty place!).

All have been getting worked on over the last couple of days, although only one that has a name at the moment is the previous H&B shop - now to be 'UrbanIgloo'.

the La Vie En Rose - seems to be a similar venture but looks like the products are more handmade - cushions, door stops etc. Opening on Tuesday.

Thought I saw folk working at Select the other day - good to hear that these places are not lying dormant for long.
