Thanks PB, I'm glad the confusion makes sense to someone else.
And a big thanks to Elvis for the subject line.
As residents with wit, style, 50p etc. And knowing about your strong sense of what's right and what's fun I come at you with a challenge.
Please arm yourself with a stick of chalk today and as you take to the streets on your daily day keep your eyes peeled for any dog apples. Please circle any offending, toxic, pavement event and write a quick warning for your fellow pedestrians.
Please don't go out of your way to do this. There's no dignity in hunting dog poo and neither should it become a chore or job. Keep to your planned route for work or etc and have some chalk in your pocket or bag or hand or handbag and take 30 seconds to mark up any dookie you stumble upon. Please watch your step.
You could write something like...
PLEASE WATCH YOUR STEP
WARNING, DOG POO
MIND OUT
CAREFUL HOW YOU GO
or
DOG POO
Please be creative and considerate. Please photograph the fruits of your labour and forward them to The Guardian. Geo-tag them or include the location and the Guardian will do a map...if they get enough responses. Even better add them to fixmystreet using the tool on the front of the guardian edinburgh website.

"More than 12 local authorities admitted using the act to check up on dog owners whose animals were suspected of dog fouling, with Allerdale Council in Cumbria reporting six such incidences of surveillance.
The council said the purpose of one of the investigations was: "To obtain evidence to see if (a) person is walking their dog, cleaning up after it but then depositing poop bag in trees, grass, or on road."
