Saw it was being done up yesterday, and we said to each other sarcastically

"that'll be another charity shop or bookies".....

I believe we are to have yet another dental practice on the High St, as well as the Red Giant one. We are certainly going to be spoiled for choice in this area.

No more choice really, just a change of venue for the Brighton Place practice?

Not quite true Sicker, although there are connections the Red Giant (will have to stop calling it that soon) practice will be run by different people so there will be more actual dentists to choose from.

Pity

The LED message display in the window looks really tacky. I'm frankly surprised they got permission for it

According to Poppy, it was supposed to be a cafe/jewellry shop. Not sure if that's been confirmed though.

The two best charity shop runs used to be Morningside and Stockbridge, but I think the leader is Porty now! We've got the delis and cafes to keep the shoppers refuelled too, which is better than Morningside anyway.

I hate charity shops.
Cafes could do with a bit of an oompf. See my post about reds/blue bean. Kitcheners is cool.
Better shops in Stockbridge and Morningside/Bruntsfield.
Not all negative, love living in Portobello, the sea and the friends I've made online
Shopping wise Love La Vie en Rose, Findlays, Kitcheners, Kost Koncious.

I see M People are on the move, as per a notice in their window. Apparently moving to Evergreen premises on 24 Oct.
No idea who, if anyone, is taking on the M People premises, Porty or PoP may be able to shed more light...

Yep thats correct, didn't say anything earlier as negotiations were delicate. We intended to lease our shop out and get a smaller more suitable high street premises in Porty. However, there appears to be a dental war going on in Porty, we were approached to sell and did. We looked at the Tan Stand but decided against it.
Pity to see Evergreen go, It didn't do much business but it was a true enigma. Janet Fenton will be a loss to Porty even although she hasn't lived there for some time. We hope to open at 230 on October 24th, PFANS meetings will be a lot cozier in future.

Agreed. I
HATE charity shops too. Mside and Stockbridge do have better shops - I mean come on, it does not take much to better Scotmid...

This all reminds me that I really need to register with a dentist.
Does anyone know if all the Brighton Place group are moving or just some?
Some charity shops are handy, its the ultimate in recycling really. I do notice a lot of them sell new stuff though

I noticed Deli 194 has a poster inviting NHS registrations. Think it is for one of the Brighton Place dentists who is relocating to Mpeople.

Seems to have been removed. It was basically just saying that the planning committee are recommending that a retrospective planning application to install a dish is refused and enforcement action taken.
Pop-in had a wee black dish, Bookies now have a big metal one... Front of a building in a conservation area... blah, blah.
Of course, probably a bit of a "how do they get away with that?" following last weeks refusal on the Deli shutters.
Crazy stuff.

Don't think it's that crazy to object to whacking big satellite dishes on the front of properties and while I have some sympathy for the Deli it did only recently benefit from a grant to restore the shop-frontage to its original glory. Maybe it is just me, but metal shutters also have connotations of a 'problem area', which Porty High Street isn't.

Is he the young Irish one? He's our dentist and we haven't heard from them in a while - need to make an appointment.

Nah, Ray is the older Ayrshire one. Think the Irish guy works for him, as opposed to whoever the female dentist is. I don't really know them. I stopped going there when Mr Morris sold up and retired.

I noticed this morning, as my daughter pushed the volvo into a parking bay, that the empty bit of Mike's Tackle shop is now Wisteria Lane.
Not sure what its selling but it looked pretty,
it was raining and I was trying to figure out why the car had stopped
( fuel pump fuse blown )
