I'm trying to think up something to do with "indecent exposure" but I'm not quite there yet.

I like them too - very jolly and decorative - but I just can't see the Art in their purpose. Yet!!

Couldn't we come up with a POL one and just slip it in (sorry........), then we could claim 13K and share it between us. Now.......I've got some old cagoules......anybody got a bit string and a sewing machine? Scaffolding pole?

I've got a t-shirt you could use...

Em....me too. We could sew them all together and make one HUGE wind sock (mine's certainly big enough

). I think that might upset Bob though when he gets back and takes a stroll along the Prom. We'd be banned.

Well, how did the launch go? I couldn't make it as I was through in Weegieland (and had a very nice time in case my friends decide to pay us a visit here on POL!!). Looks like the sun shone for you all.

Mr E and I had a walk along today to see the, em..... artwork. Nice. Colourful. Socky. Kitelike. (am I doing okay not being negative?). Hung about for ages waiting for Bellylorna (honest, that's her name

) but seemed we were a bit early so had to give her a by. Think we should have our next POL night out at the Moroccan restaurant where Bellylorna does her dancing on a nightly basis and the diners get to join in.

I had a walk along the beach today past all five windsocks and then back to the paddling pool site for the speeches... A gallery of the photos:

I was past around sunset... I must say I got more out of it second time around. It's all to do with the light.
Like Wangi, I'll continue to record images over the coming weeks. I won't be so fast at posting a gallery though!
Is anyone else thinking "Dalziel and Scullion"?

Sounding more positive there Dakota. Did you get a chance to speak to the two artists?

'Fraid not, Marya. I had commitments in town on Saturday lunchtime.
I want very much to be positive about this installation. I also would like to use it as a spark for my own creativity. I see a challenge here, in making a worthwhile record of an event for which Portobello can be really proud. Accordingly, I anticipate multiple visits, in dufferent lighting conditions, to see how the installation works.
All together now:
"You've got to AC-ACENT-CHUATE the positive
E-LIM-INATE the negative
Latch on to the A-FIRM-ATIVE
And don't mess with Mr In-Between."
I don't believe in Beatles.

Is the white, cone shaped one a tribute to Arcari's?

I do believe you are right, its all becoming clear to me now. Note there is no Flake colour and i was rarely allowed a 99 when i was young. How did the artists know that? Its spooky.

Nearly every time I'm on the beach taking photos I get shoes/feet wet

I've even been stranded on a sandbar
Got hit by a fair few waves yesterday.

I like the wind socks. Not sure why they have to be temporary though.
As they are (apparently) depicting industires of Portobello I can't see them being useful elsewhere, so why not leave them up until the weather decides it is time to take them down.

Saw the windsocks this morning and liked them. I am however one of those that struggle with them as an interpretation of local industry.

No photoshop-edits -- as it came out of the camera.
Just Portobello on a beautiful sunny day.

Great shot Dakota.
I was down on the Prom last night and standing along by the Amusements I could only distinguish 3 secret graphic language notice boards. I can't imagine how someone in Leith could see all five in any detail whatsoever.
And there is another mystery; why are there no pictures of Maureen and Lawrence standing underneath one or more of the secret graphic language notice boards?

I suspect PoP is where I am on the PFPRFC team colours. We prefer the "Wasp" version or even the Old "V" Jersey from the days when the team were a force in Scottish Rugby. But you are right the colours are very close to the "new" team colours.

Rumour has it the stripes will be reappearing this year.

Maybe we could get the windsock when they are finished with it and fly it by the side of the pitch!

It would look rather striking on the roof of the club, or on top of the hill!
