I attended the meeting at PHS last night to hear about the development plans for the school and meet the professionals involved. There were essentailly 4 groups, Architects, Project Management, Design Brief Preparation and the Council.

We had the opportunity to input into the design brief and also ask any questions of the Architects. I left feeling that we are very lucky to not have any 3rd party PFI involvement, which allows us to develop a direct relationship between the client and the Architects. I think that this will prove to be invaluable and can surely only result in better design.

Plans submitted by Christmas is a strong possibility.

A letter forwarded by Maureen Child- self explanatory:

Dear Local Resident

PORTOBELLO PARK: SITE INVESTIGATION WORK FOR NEW SCHOOL

I am writing to inform you that site survey and investigation work will be commencing shortly in Portobello Park. This work is to support the development of a planning application for the new Portobello High School and must be carried out before any planning application can be submitted.

The first stage of the work is a topographical survey of the land and this will be followed by ground testing using bore holes. This work will take place over the next few months and we will try to keep any disruption to a minimum.

I would like to reassure you that this work is preparatory work for the planning application. The architects must demonstrate to the planners that they have taken ground conditions into account when drawing up the plans for the new school and outline the reasons why they are showing the building in a particular position on the site. The planning application for the new school will then follow the normal statutory planning processes before any final decisions are taken.

Before the final planning application is submitted we aim to engage with the local community to give feedback on the designs for the school and hope to commence this work in the Autumn. The school community and local residents will be able to express their views on the proposals at this stage and again when the planning application is submitted for consideration.

Should you have any questions regarding the above please contact Barbara Johnson
( tel 529 4472, email barbara.johnson@edinburgh.gov.uk)

Yours sincerely

What about this comment from 'Save Portobello Park'?
It is a nonsense and vandalism to build on a park especially when it is only kids that will benefit.
Do you think PPAG supporters were ever children once?

Could be keeley hawkes? Got shot about 5 years ago and was transported into the future without knowing anything about consultations or condition reports either that or an ordinary PPAG supporter.

By the evidence provided by that particular person, they would have benefited from going to a good school, with commited teachers and decent facilities. A bit like the scool that is planned actually...
