Forum independence

Post by administrator » 05 Feb 2007, 15:18

Following discussion, the POL administrators recently took the decision to separate the POL website from the forums. This decision was presented to the last meeting of the Community Council on Mon. 29 January 2007, where it was met with approval. This means that over the coming weeks you may notice a few changes.

The new forum site will continue to be run by Paula Williams and Maria Devoy, supported by Poppy as Moderator and Wangi as technical guru. The forum site will be independent from Portobello Online and from the Community Council. Bob Jefferson will no longer be an administrator of the Forum site, which will be registered under a new domain name.

Bob will be sole administrator of the Portobello Online site, which will remain part of the Community Council. He has requested that Community Council volunteers form a new sub-committee to help with the development of the site. Maria has stepped down as Community Council representative for the website and Bob has resumed this role.

Current forum members will not need to re-register with the new, independent forum and will be informed of the new domain name as soon as it is registered.

We are optimistic that this decision is a positive step forward for all.

You may have noticed that some of the promised changes to the site have started to take place.

The new domain name for the forum site is http://forum.talkporty.org and users should now bookmark and use this address to access the forum pages.

Members and visitors still using the old address will be, in the short term, automatically re-directed to the new site.

It is also intended to create an initial index page at http://talkporty.org. This page will describe the forum site and Portobello and contain prominent links to other Portobello websites, who would have a similar link to us. However, this task will take slightly longer to accomplish.
