Hi Bob, have retitled the post - this is one thing big Things are doing this year, there will also be a temporary piece too.

I'm on the list, but it's still early days.

Expressions of interest are invited from experienced curators wanting to work with Big Things on the Beach, a community led public arts trust in Portobello, Edinburgh, to deliver the Portobello Garden Gallery project in Summer 2008.
Tales from the KindergARTen

"What is this game?" asked Alice.

"It's the one where you have to procure a curator," explained the Mad Hatter.

"A procurator?"

"Not especially. Just a common or garden curator will do fine."

"Curiouser and curiouser."

"No, it's pronounced curator."

"And what will it cure?"

"Cure?"

"This curator. What will it cure?"

"Nothing at all. It's the egg we want of course."

Expect an update on the Garden Gallery soon - the curators have been hired and are currently liaising with residents and artists. The plan is to have the exhibition running during this years Festival.

A recent update on the BTOTB website is on Big Things application to the "Inspire" fund: Will Porty be "Inspired"?

Of course, due to my own daftness the website died... Sorry to anyone who only saw an error! Now fixed.
BTOTB wrote:Big Things on the Beach has made a proposal to the Scottish Arts Council for a share of its £8M Inspire Fund which is intended to encourage more people to become involved in the arts.

Our proposal, "Resort", is for a year long programme of activity in 2009-10 to enable artists and local people to explore what the idea of resort means in the 21st century and the role of art in making it a reality.

Local residents open up their gardens to create vibrant open-air festival exhibition

This August Portobello will play host to a unique exhibition. For one month only local and internationally recognised artists will be displaying work in the front gardens of Portobello residents.

The Garden Gallery will be a vibrant open-air exhibition in which the residents will be the Garden Gallery "hosts". Artwork will include painting, sculpture, installation work, sound and performance work with the exhibition featuring in the Edinburgh Art Festival 2008.

Artwork will also be appearing in a variety of other venues, with one-off events taking place in public and private spaces. Artists will be exploring the relationships in the environment on and around Edinburgh's wonderful city beach.
