Bogus callers - please warn your neighbours!

Post by jb5370 » 27 Jan 2012, 15:10

Just to trying to make folk aware that there are bogus callers doing the rounds. My elderly neighbour unfortunately was taken in and handed over a four figure sum for work she believed had been done. Please bring this to the attention of as many Porty folk as you can, especially elderly neighbours or relatives. The line used was that the caller was the son of my neighbour's roofer. Unfortunately being a trusting soul she believed him

If someone can tweet this that would be good to get the warning round lots more folk. Thanks.

Here's the police link about the incidents -

I thought the same but then again alot of old folk keep large amounts of money round the house (I know my Grandparents used too) but they must have been very trusting to hand over such an amount of money.

Bet the scumbags that did this couldn't believe their luck.

My 90 year old Grandmother had v strange man with a 'story' at her door in Fairmilehead who was alarmed when my mum answered the door and told him to beat it. She then called the police who asked whether there was a handrail at the door, which there is......they advised that these scum look for handrails, ramps, other assistance mechanisms that tend to be put in for the elderly or infirm and target those doors - how sick is that. Pass this on to anyone you know who has a handrail or similar at their door or is likely to be targeted by such callers.

She didn't have it in the house. She went to the bank and withdrew it. She was convinced that she had spoken to her roofer on the phone when she tried to confirm the supposed son's story.

Just in the past couple of weeks, I've heard loads of stories about break-ins. In particular, the ones where the thieves drive up round back with a van and fill it with house contents.

Either everyone's heard about a variation of the same story, or there's been a crime wave. Anyone know?

There seems to be a bit of a crime wave Charlie. Heard of 3 or 4 break ins around Abercorn / Brunstane area. Hope these low life are apprehended quickly.

Some good news. Wonder if these people were responsible for any in Porty?
