POL Promotion- All set to go. Teams and Tasks

Post by Porty » 30 Oct 2004, 23:16

Hey

Firstly, may I say that those of you that have volunteered are very much appreciated. And for those who are still pondering, then if you so wish, you can approach one of the team captains and offer to help on the QT.

We are ready to push the button on the the FR campaign as soon as we get the all clear from Bob on the site.

We are hoping to have the office get together on Thursday November 12th and ideally we shall be meeting to have a few glasses of wine and finish the job off. This date will rather neatly coincide with Bob's 2nd anniversary as a POL member. I dearly hope that we do not have to delay.

We decided to split people into teams:

Porty Babes

Porty Maryauders

Porty Posse

This ought to be better for managing the task and also a bit of competition!! You will note that Partners (or at least ones that I am aware of) have been seperated. The teams are listed below and if your captain has not been in touch then they will be soon. The captains have an interesting job, they have not met many of their team mates. Best of luck to all.

Porty Babes-Captain Bellybabe

Bob-bellybabe B
Bellybabe-bellybabe B
Lizzie-bellybabe B
Cornerboy-bellybabe B
Beachbabe-belly babe B
Hells Cat-bellybabe B

Porty Maryauders - Captain Marya

Poppy-marya M
Marya-marya M
Sandra-marya M
Flearoy-marya M
DG-marya M
ECM-marya M
Epykat-marya M

Porty Posse -Captain Porty

Bearcub-Porty P
Porty-porty P
Pal of Porty-porty P
Jay-porty P
Dada-porty P
Catzvp-porty P

P Babes will have 1934-1950 and 1953-1976 = 1710 emails

P Marauders will have 1951-52 plus 1988-99 = 1710 emails

P Posse will have 1977-1987= 1736 emails

All years are inclusive, you will note that we are stopping at 2000 for now anyway.

Just completed 1977 using the "quick" method. Took me exactly half an hour. Much, much quicker than I had envisaged. Here is the message we are transmitting;

Apologies to my team for a slight delay in issuing instructions, but because I use a Mac I'm having to get Porty and Bob to format my Word tables for me (I'm told that this will make things much quicker for you all - I'll be using a slightly more cumbersome method). From Porty's post it looks like each person's allocation will take about an hour.
They're just about done now.......emails will be sent very soon. I know you're all just raring to go

Oh hey, I didn't know we'd started!
Team, I'm just waiting for someone else to do all the work for me, and then we're off  !

Sorry, I'm confused ( a lot of people say that to me!) I thought that
"We are hoping to have the office get together on Thursday November 12th " from Porty meant that that was the start.
Bellybabe can you clear up for me? :?

The plan is to get the bulk of the emailing done prior to Thurs get together and Thurs will be a finale. I thought I had communicated this but I may have forgotten.

(Your wine is ready for collecting now by the way)

Taking a break. I've completed about a third of my allocation but it's taking me longer than it should because I keep reading the profiles. I have the early years, starting from 1937. Some of these people must now be in their eighties. I hope we can get some of them onto the forum because it would be great to read their stories of living and growing up in Portobello.

How's everyone else doing?

You dont need my word files. Just copy and paste all the records on a page drop them into word and away you go. Its much quicker than jumping about between FR pages. Good luck

Some of my team have had problems opening the Word documents that I sent them. Bob and Porty made them up for me and I just forwarded them with my emails today. Looks like I've corrupted them somehow so I've asked Bob to resend them directly to my team members

Or you could just do as Porty suggests in the post above!!

BTW we have a sniper trained on the entrance to your flat. Should you attempt to leave without completing the task in hand, the consequences will not be for the faint hearted.

You've got very similar ideas of team working, motivation and general management techniques to RoS, you know.

For those of you participating in this project, if you click on the Sent Items button you can see just how many emails we have already collectively sent. You will also see from the Inbox that we have had a few replies. I have passed on the message to James Bonthron btw.

So, who forgot to put something in the subject line on 3 consecutive messages?

Extremely busy Bob, on the last lap, should be finished this afternoon. It's taking a bit longer than it might cause I can't help reading all the profiles :)

Knew there'd come a day when I was glad to see the 'X Factor/X-tra Factor' was on - no danger or Sandra going anywhere near the PC then

Done my first year now, mind you it is pretty monotonous - although now found a cousin and an ex that went to Porty HS!!

Like Lizzie I read a few of the profiles. I'm sure Bob and Porty would have been interested in the young lady that is now a model over in Canada complete with her own website.........now,what was that address again? :-k
