"definately"

"there" instead of "their"

"bleading"

Bad spelling on this forum has reached epidemic proportions.

If you where trapped on a dessert island I wood fourgive you for miss spelling your words, but to have made a poast on the internet, sir rounded as yew are bi spell chequers and elecktronich dick shun airies, this con duct is Frank Lee un four give a bull.

I know it's against forum rules to point out bad spelling. And whilst CoC's patois was charming, slack phonetic spelling by the rest of you is getting on my goat.

I assumed the bleading radiators were because the real spelling wouldn't get by the filter!

What do you hope to achieve by belittling posters in this way Dadaist?

Is it to;
a) help posters improve their spelling
or
b) just air your irritation?

If the answer is a) then you will be sadly disappointed for a variety of reasons.
Spelling is most often "caught" rather than merely "taught".
Adults will find it extremely difficult to alter habits of decades. Some posters may be dyslexic and many others will not have a spell check facility on their browser. Not all of us are touchtypists and in a rush to post may make simple keyboard errors. Further more, a fair few of us may want to respond quickly to a thread and in so doing make errors which normally we would spot. And then again there are all those posts made in the wee sma' hours when a "tired and emotional" state of affairs influences our writing.
If you want to aid Adults to learn to spell better then offer your services to Community Education.

On the other hand, if it is answer b) to air your irritation , then you have done so on several occasions so far on this Forum.

Ultimately, all you will achieve is deterring users from posting by making them embarrassed and self-conscious, worried that some smart Aleck is going to come along and berate them for a perceived lack of literary skills.

Oh and there's also the matter of this;
1. Personal attacks against forum members will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, attacks on the comments, ideas, language skills, spelling, punctuation, age, gender, sexual orientation, physical appearance, ability/disabilty, politics and cultural or religious beliefs of other forum members. Your right to freedom of speech has to be balanced with your responsibility not to cause offence. You are free to debate and to disagree, but in a manner that is respectful of the rights and feelings of others.

Free spell check, small file size, works with Internet Explorer

Those of us who have problems with spelling are in good company, well the company of Stephen Twigg, School's Minister at least.

'Ooh, I know this one!'

I don't think that Dadaist is having a go at anyone in particular (except maybe Beach Babe  ) but I think there is a danger in making assumptions. Some users may be dyslexic or have other learning difficulties. For some, English may not even be their first language.

Having said that, I think that the general standard of spelling in the UK is falling and that is certainly a topic worthy of discussion.

I don't claim to have perfect spelling Bob, though I have been using the BBC's list of problematical spellings to coach my pupils in preparation for the Scottish final of the initial knockout competition so have been a bit of a swot on this subject lately

Just realised after another couple of attempts that the clock stops while you type in your answers.

I am therefore no longer smug.

Hmm, I'm not sure. How is it possible to score 64 then?

I tried typing a bit faster and scored 38. Beat that ecm!

Got a couple of 42s and a 43, (Honest) getting one or two wrong in each round.
But I can't see how you could get anymore than about 50 in the time given.

The trick is to be very quick in the first section to maximise your scoring there. Can I also point out that this test is designed for 11-14 year olds?

Got 40 on my first attempt but can't cope well under that kind of pressure!!!

Other people's spelling bothered me most at uni. I couldn't understand how so many people could hope to be good at other languages when they couldn't write their own.

OK - here's how to get a really high score. I just got 80 in round one by clicking furiously on option one for the time allowed. I then went on to score a much more modest 8 in round two.

I'll get me coat.

 Hey, I scored 90! I didn't even bother with the second round. Marya, I think this proves conclusively that I'm twice as klever as wot yoo arnt.

Trust ecm to find a cheat though!

I've just tried ecm's "cheat" to no avail :( All that happened was I scored 'nil points' and was given a long list of all the words that I had 'mistakenly' clicked on.
