What are you drinking right now?

Post by ecm » 25 Dec 2004, 15:40

Well, dinner will be served in an hour or so.
Ali has banished me from the kitchen so there's nothing else for it - time for a rum and coke!

Ali has some Belgian beer chilling and there's enough wine to sink something sizeable.
I think I've done very well not to have a drink before now.

What's on the booze menu where you are?

Cheers everyone!

:drunken: :drunken: :drunken:

Had one glass of champagne so far.
Will be having some Italian wine with dinner at 4pm. Can't wait - I have already done 4,529 laps of Scalextric! :D

We've had a Buck's Fizz and glass of chardonay so far. Keeping sober for now as going back up to RIE to see my dad and take him his supper!

Dan got that for Xmas too. I can't even say it - it always comes out Scalextrix for some reason, and that's without a drink, - never mind play it.
It's a boy thing, I guess.

Couldn't face a drop...yet.

Went to Rush last night but not much going on, despite it being £1.25 a drink. So on to the Phoenix before Bar Kohl, Frankensteins, then Espionage.

Espionage closed at 5am, ended up back drinking at Budget Backpackers on the Cowgate until 8.30am this morning. Just woke up about an hour and a half ago!

Merry Xmas everyone!

Well, it's after five and I've not had a drop yet :( .
At 12.40 I had just poured the creme de cassis into four glasses and was about to open the fizz and turn on the veg, when my father-in-law, who had been feeling unwell, became much worse suddenly, and was ten minutes later whisked off in an ambulance, along with my partner, to A&E at the RIE. He's just been moved up to the cardiac ward - he's feeling better thanks to the care received there but is considered high risk. Still not sure whether or not he actually had a heart attack, although his symptoms certainly seemed to bear it out. He's also diabetic and his blood sugar had gone crazy.
All in all not the best Christmas, especially for him and for my partner who has spent all afternoon in A&E worrying. The children are puzzled by the sudden disappearance to the hospital of "Pop", and I've spent the afternoon gazing at all the food we no longer have an appetite for.
And just to top it all, it's his birthday today.
Sorry to whinge but I've been dying for a drink for hours now and still can't have one! Have one for me, guys?

What a distressing thing to happen to your father-in-law and what an upset for the rest of you all, especially happening on Xmas day.

I do hope he continues to improve. He'll be well looked after, I'm sure.

As Jamesie say's, let's hope the New Year brings better times.

Sorry to hear your news BB. Hope things are better by now?
I started the morning with a Bucks Fizz wot I opened at my third parcel. Have been drinking wine all day and just finished a vodka and coke and don't feel even slightly tipsy. Must have been the half a turkey Mr E put on my plate :D

Thanks for your kind wishes.
He didn't have a heart attack but is at high risk of one - he's been diagnosed with unstable angina, and won't be out of the hospital before Thursday at the earliest. :(
As for the New Year, well, fingers crossed. Although there is a good omen for it - sort of - I won 2 tickets to the street party. Of course i can't go - even without this happening, my brother is coming up with his family ad we have a much more appealing invitation! - but it was nice to win something.
Back on topic, I did at least manage to get a glass of wine in in the end, along with a rather dismal Christmas meal - not quite the tasty, sparkly, fun affair I'd planned, but still, couldn't let two birds go to waste. And the wine definitely helped.
Hope everyone's having a good - and not too hungover - Boxing Day!

Drinking a nice cup of tea right now and not had an alcoholic drink since Monday, which seems light years away now. Might see if I can sneak out for a few beers tonight as a warm up for tomorrow. 8)

Just returned from a friends drinks party where I had a couple of Ports. Think I'm coming down with one of the dreaded lurgies so couldn't manage any more. Looks like it will be a quiet Hogmanay for me!

Don't think I'll make it to the wonderful garden party under the gazebo
