How much turkey did you get through?
How much turkey did you get through?
It was a thrill to all the family to watch as we unpacked the turkey which my grandma had purchased. There was a mere 17 pounds of this turkey and 8 of us only ate a quarter . I think it could have been something to do with also seeing dad cutting off it's hairy bum and then giving it a good stuffing.
ithink we're going for steak next year.

there's no excuses you have the same length of time as shakespeare and van goth.
Hey Flearoy,
Hope you all had a great day.
That was surely one big turkey. By my reckoning you got through about a half pound each which, disturbing imagery taken into consideration, is pretty good going!!
We got through a heap of turkey on Xmas day and Ali had some left-overs yesterday. D and I opted for pizza.
A turkey curry might be on the cards to use up some more.
Take away from the 108 next year for us.

I think we've managed to demolish about half of ours in two days. The rest is sitting in the fridge daring us to come up with another disguise for it! It was the soup that got us - a mini cauldron of which only two bowls have so far been consumed - I was dreaming about it last night. Think it must have been the cabbage......
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!
Being just the two of us, we opted for 2 stuffed Cornish game hens this Christmas. so all was eaten in one sitting......well apart from the brussels, but then whats new!!
The cats had their own mini turkey dinners (from the butcher)....
so the good thing is we don't have to work out 20 recipies for turkey this week!!

We threw our left-over brussels out for the seagulls
but obviously they are very fussy eaters along this end of the prom and they wouldn't eat them
so we (well my long-suffering other half - he was trying to score some brownie points
)had to go back out to the garden and pick them all up up next day

How old would you be, if you didn't know how old you are?
Well, we just had turkey mayo wraps with salad as I discovered most of the breast hadn't been touched (no wise cracks, please). We had a capon from Findlays and an M&S duck for me, as not keen on either turkey or chicken, and of course since things went awry we hardly ate any and are left with mountains of tasty organic meat we don't really want.
We also took a "hamper" into the hospital of a capon drumstick, some fancy cheese, oatcakes, a salmon roll, and a miniature bottle of red wine. Bound to be good for his heart, all that.
We still have masses of food left though, after all the disruption. As for the sprouts, by the time we got onto dinner, I ruined all the veg. No al dente rubbish in this house this Christmas, thank you very much - really traditional English, I think (not really sampled Scots sprouts since I hate them anyway), mushy soggy sprouts and broccoli. And the parsnips are in the freezer. The really really crappy thing was that I managed to cook the birds really well!
Personally I would happily skip the traditional Christmas meal altogether - I've never been keen on it, and am even less so now it conjures up images of ambulances
. I normally cook pretty healthily but I'd rather have a take away for Christmas every time!

All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

Did anybody see River Cottage today? He was cooking a 10 bird roast which consisted of (funnily enough) 10 birds in descending sizes being cooked one inside the other
It looked disgusting especially since the poor turkey was the biggest and had all the others inside it. Think I'll just stick to the usual one again next year (unless I can persuade them the Prince Balti would be a better option)

A friend of mine was doing that but with three, not ten! A quail, a...nope, can't remember the middle one - and a goose. I thought it sounded foul.
I can't believe I just made that joke. I need a drink...!
