What are you up to at New Year?

Post by Porty » 28 Dec 2004, 21:54

I have no plans and to be quite frank NY celebrations have lost their allure for me.

That's probably because New York is so far away. I much prefer something closer to home
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

I've given it a miss in recent years, but for those of you looking for a local event the Dalriada has a Hogmanay evening. Tickets £10 in advance including tapas. Music from Rosy Blue. Rose will be raffling one of her paintings for charity.

New year is an absolute jioke a bunch of australians get to come jump about in our town centre and us lot can no longer go because it costs money. there is no way i'd pay £20 to stand in a street and then on top of that another £20 to get into a packed nightclub.
So....looks like am hangin about porty....ah well ....free booze at west Brighton crescent so suppose i'll gather round some mates for a night of scrounging.
there's no excuses you have the same length of time as shakespeare and van goth.

I've never really enjoyed New Year that much and haven't gone out on Hogmanay for years now.
No doubt, I shall be sitting slagging off the terrible rubbish on TV for most of the evening.
Ali and I get a very good view of the fireworks from where we are, so I'll watch those before turning in.

I'm with you ECM. I've got a few invites but I'm very tempted to open a bottle of wine and stay chez moi, with the lights out of course just in case of any of these pesky first foots

Yeah, I've done the lights out not at home bit before too, Foxy but it's been so quiet round here the past few years that I feel safe enough to keep a low light on now!

hmmmm.......

well I guess we'll be joining those of you moaning about the telly

and since his recent tummy bug (courtesy of the parents who went visiting relatives with gastric flu), Dada has announced he won't be drinking so I'll have the bottle of wine all to myself :)

We have our grandchild here for the night and our neice so hope to stay up to see the fireworks (get a great view of all the hills from our flat but have to run from room to room to see all!) then off to bed. Having some family, friends and neighbours round for an open house tomorrow night though to make up for the night in :D

Hope you all have a nice time tonight in whatever you do!

All the best to you as well, DG.

We get a good view of the fireworks from Windsor Place too. I think a couple of years ago we reckoned we could see 6 out of the 7 displays.

There was quite a haar, or maybe it was just very low cloud over Arthur's Seat earlier today, but it seems to be fairly clear now.

And New Year is another excuse for me to let off more fireworks. Watch Brighton Place too ecm and DG :D
Fortunately for my neighbours and their pets, they are not quite the size of the ones they were putting in place on Arthur's Seat earlier on today....

So, what's it to be then, Sandra? I think we're going for the Buzzcocks/Chewin' the Fat/Only an excuse combo and then we'll ritually slag off the BBc and ITV Hogmanay parties.

God help us, we're on Smirnoff Ice now having just had red wine.

Cheers!

The fireworks displays were pretty spectacular and very noisy.
Great stuff.

There were some from the Brighton area just before the bells. Were they your ones, Marya?

And I can now officially say Happy New year to you all!

Bonfires along beach and fireworks here, and along East Lothian and Fife coasts. Like being in a war zone!! Tons of peeps on Prom, too.
